Description

My wife bought this '55 about 12 years ago from a dealer in California. It had always been a California vehicle, nd had been in a climate controlled garage since 1970. This little Ford does not know what the word "rust" means. It has never had any, eriod. The car had been owned by the same person since the early 60's, nd was "built" as a show car, o compete in ISCA. It ran a 427 FE with a blower. Back then the more chrome, he more points, o no dollars were spared having things plated. The body was removed, nd all pieces that would unbolt were plated. The frame was painted, he body undercoated, nd all wearable parts and pieces replaced. Now, don't like chrome, ut believe me, t makes this puppy easy to keep clean. It had been painted in copper lacquer in about 1969, hen topcoated with candy red in 1970, urning it into a root beer brown color. My wife bought the car with no engine or tranny, s I had a very nice 292 Y-Block and 4-speed combo to use. The engine was a killer and ran great, ut I had it torn down anyway. All new bearings, ings, il pump, tc,,,, he cam is an unidentified Isky, nd provides the best sounds I have ever heard from a Y-Block. I used the fat manifolds, ince I didn't want to run headers, nd the pipes curl over the frame to run outside. It has 2-1/2" exhaust with glasspacks. Fellow racers can't believe how it sounds, nd don't know why I don't race it. Truth is, t's not mine, t's my wife's. And, he won't let me. I used a '57 four barrel manifold, nd modified it (per the experts) to work best with the Edelbrock 600. The radiator is old and thick, ut works great. There is no motor fan, nd the electric is only needed in stopped traffic in hot weather. The critter has all new driveline stuff, rom driveshaft to tranny, o clutch, o aluminum flywheel, o brakes. The steering is manual and a breeze to operate. It drives absolutely wonderfully. Outside it has new paint, Dodge copper basecoat/clearcoat. It's not perfect, ut that's the point, t's a driver. The glass is all perfect, nd all rubbers and seals are great, aving been replaced when the car was shown. I don't think it had been driven since. I don't believe that my wife has driven this car 500 miles since I finished with all the mods. Let the pictures do the talking...... The interior could stand to be redone. It was last touched in 1970. It is extremely comfortable to drive, ut the material and color still live in the past. The drivers seat is worn, ut not torn. The front seats are Monte Carlo swivel buckets. The color is gold cloth with walnut naugahyde. The headliner is fine. The dash is very kool. The cluster including the see through speedo has been removed, o the top is smooth all the way across. It has a multitude of gauges, ith some for the blower. The wiring could stand to be thinned out. Everything works, ut there is simply an abundance of wiring. Timing system, adio speakers, tc....The carpeting is complete, ut again, ould stand to be replaced. It has a remote trunk electrical release, lus a manual release. Out back is a near perfect set of Merc wagon taillights. The lenses are perfect, nd the chrome is near perfect. I gave these to my wife for Christmas many years ago, ven before she bought the car. The tires are new, s are the wheels. I have '60 Ford caps installed, s they have always been my favorite. The chrome underneath is starting to pit, ut remember, t was done prior to 1969. It's still respectable. The frame has chips, ut again, et the pictures show it's condition. I'm sure that I have missed a number of things, o I will add to the description as things pop up.
