BurgundyBMW 1998 740i E38


Hello,


I am selling my 1998 BMW 740i. I am going to try my best to describe this vehicle in three sections: History, pgrades, nd Issues.


History:

This car was bought in the summer of 2014 from my neighbor up the street. He was a retired army general and bought the car with very, ery low millage. I believe it was around 10-20,000 miles. He drove it and took it in to the local shop and kept a log of the maintenance that was done on the car. At about 100,000 miles, bought the car from him. Currently, he BMW has 127,497 miles on the clock. I would say that all the service records from the previous two owners are in the log. I, n the other had, referred to actual do the oil changes myself and keep it in tip-top running condition.


This car has a clean title.


Upgrades:

When I bought the car from my neighbor, he first thing that I had to do was change the headliner. I covered the pillars with a suede material and took the headliner into a shop so that they could properly cover the curvy areas on the headliner. Next, fter a few thousand miles, noticed that smoke was coming out of the exhaust. The culprit to this was the OSV (oil separator valve). Once this was changed, he car's engine has been running strong and flawless. Next, he tires were changed about 5,000 miles ago. They should have a nice amount of life left in them. Of course, he oil has been changed every 5-8,000 miles with Mobile 1 fully synthetic. Next, rock flew in the windshield and cracked it on a visit up to Austin via I35. That was replaced. Furthermore, he ignition switch was changed. When I got the car, he key was able to turn 360 degrees inside the ignition. After replacing it, t is functioning as it should. The last upgrade that I did was to change out the ABS sensors on all 4 wheels. One day, noticed that my odometer and MPG meters stopped working. After taking it to the dealer, hey suggested that the ABS module needed to be replaced. After conducting my own independent research, realized that the issues where the ABS sensors at the wheels. These were basically fried when I inspected them. After replacing them, didn't have any issues. The vehicle ran like a dream.


As of today, hese are all the 'upgrades' and maintenance that have been done on the car.


Issues:

This car only has a few minor issues that I want to mention and be upfront about.

(1) There is a nice dent on the front of the hood. Nothing to bad, ut noticeable.

(2) The chrome trim/seals that are located above the rear passenger and rear driver side need to be replaced. Again, ot a hard job.

(3) The glove box has some ghosts in it. Inside the glove box, here is a plastic cover that covers the locking mechanism. This plastic has some 'teeth' that holds the cable so that when you pull on the glove box lever, t is able to release the latch holding the box. Again, was able to fix it, ut still needs so adjusting.

(4) The shocks for holding up the trunk lid might need to be replaced. Even though they hold the trunk when its all the way up, he trunk closes when its half way open. I am not sure if that is how it was meant to be.

(5) ABS module needs to be bleed from the air.


Problems 1-4 are not serious. Problem (5) is what I am not to happy about. When I took the car to the BMW dealer on i10 (there is a guy there who specializes in e38), was told numerous times that the ABS module was the culprit to the odometer/MPG problem that I had earlier. I changed the ABS module with a similar one from another car and it didn't fix it. It was only after this that I tried to change the ABS sensors at the wheels. However, y changing the module, ir was able to get into the module which then tripped the ABS and EPS light on the dash board. Also, hen pressing the brakes, he brakes travel a unusual longer distance (due to this air).


Conclusions:

So when I plug in the OBD2 Reader, here are no codes, o SRS codes, othing wrong except the ABS/EPS lights. To fix this, believe that the car needs to be taken to the shop where they can bleed the air from the ABS Module. Once done, t will be in good condition.
