I am selling a 1972 BMW 3.0CS with approximately 80k miles on it. I purchased this car about 9 months ago with plans to repaint and re-upholsterit, ut I have realized that I probably won't have time to do that in the near future. Before buying the car, contacted BMW to learn about the car's history. According to the BMW archives, The BMW 3.0 CS Automatic VIN2230105was manufactured on October 19th, 971 and delivered on October 26th, 971 to the BMW dealer Ungeheuer in Karlsruhe. The original colour was Polaris metallic, aint code 060." Please see details of the car below:
BODYThe Body is sold, ith very little rust compared to most E9 cars. According the the inspection report, here are 2 areas with significant rust: there is a small sized hole (pictured) in the passenger side floor and there is rust in the driver side wheel well, ehind the fuse box area. As you can see in the photos, he driver side floor pan, ockers, nd rear quarters are solid. The shock towers also look good. The body has been repainted Fjord Blue, ut it was originally Polaris (silver) metallic. The original silver paint is visible in some of the areas (particularly the hood) where the Fjord Blue paint is peeling.
INTERIORThe interior of the car is acceptable for a car that is driven on a regular basis. The seats have been re-upholstered in a synthetic material but have some small cracks. The dashboard and door panels also show cracks, ut are also decent given the age of the car. the headliner is not sagging. As far as I can tell, he gauges are working properly. The windows were originally power, ut they have been converted to manual since the power windows that originally came with this model were notoriously unreliable.
MECHANICALThe car starts right up, nd runs and drives great. About 3 months ago I drove it 80 miles from San Francisco to Sacramento, A. It recently had a new radiator installed and the tires were also recently replaced. It is running on Weber carbs, ut the original Zenith carbs are in the trunk, nd included in the auction. A few years ago, he car was converted to a 5-speed manual from an 80s-era 5-Series. The transmission swap cost about $5,000 and all receipts are included.
DOCUMENTATIONThe car comes with a binder with all service history dating back to 1982. It seems that the car has been in the San Francisco Bay Area since then. It has been serviced by some very reputable BMW facilities (Moran Motorsport in Berkeley CA, avarian Professionals in Berkeley CA, &B BMW in Berkeley CA) and previous owners spent a substantial amount of money to keep it running well.
