I am the 3rd owner. Carfax will show 5 owners but the 2 original owners both moved states and one had been divorced so it showed a title change for that as well. The vehicle was bought by the second owner as a CPO vehicle. I purchased the vehicle from a dealership in St. Louis and drove it back to Michigan.
There were no accidents shown on the CarFax when I purchased this vehicle. While owning this vehicle I was tapped on the RR corner while on the highway in my ownership - zero structural damage and thecosmeticdamage is only noticeable to a trained eye. The area has been buffed and scratching removed. The person that hit my vehicle tried to run from the scene so I had to call the policeand report this - unsure if this will show as an accident at this point but I feel inclined to let the next owner know. The "damage" is pictured - there is a small scuff that is extremelyunnoticeable.
The vehicle has been extremely reliable. I have high attention to detail and have refreshed many items as you will see below in. The vehicle is extremely tight, handles well and has an abundance of power. No start up noises or knocks - nosurprises. I would not hesitate to take this vehicle on long road trips at all. I just recently (2 weeks ago) changed the oil and had it analyzed by Blackstone Laboratories - report was clean and there are no causes for concern.

56,619 miles - Clutch/Flywheel/Throw out bearing replaced – 2nd owner
57,000? - Brake pads and ABS sensors replaced – 2ndowner

68,050 miles – both oil separator hoses replaced
-Front sway bar end links replaced
-Beast power rear sway bar brackets installed
-Both front control arms replaced
-Both rear integral links replaced
-LR lower control arm’s outer ball joint replaced
68,106 miles – both AFE air filters cleaned
-Replaced driver’s side front lower control arm bushing (inboard) with X5 4.6is unit
-Replaced passenger’s side front lower control unit (whole) due to play in outer ball joint and also added the X5 4.6s bushing to the inner
-Engine mounts replaced
-Transmission mounts replaced with Rogue Engineering units
-Alignment performed to OEM specs
68,689 miles – replaced both front, outer splash shields directly in front of both wheels (referred to as porkchops by some people)
-Installed new jack pads
68,690 miles – passenger side headlight taken apart, cleaned and rebuilt with new high strength adjusters
-Replaced chrome nut on top of intake plenum (was missing from PO)
-Replaced front differential bushing
-Replaced center support bearing
-Replaced driver’s side output seal for axle
-Replaced header to exhaust seals
-Replaced flex disc (guibo)
Replaced shift tower bushing for shift level pivot
68,950 miles - driver side headlight taken apart, cleaned and rebuilt with new high strength adjusters
-Auto dimming mirror sent to “radar-mirror.com) for repair
- All new Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires installed
69,868 miles – replaced power steering hose, steering box to cooling coil, o-ring replaced at cooling coil side
-Mobil 1 ATF flushed whole power steering system
-All 8 spark plugs changed with Bosch FGR-7-DQP (OEM Spec called out by owners manual)
-Replaced bulb socket on driver’s side front turn signal
69,808 miles – main chain tensioner replaced
70,426 miles – replaced 2 rear differential bushings with powerflex street bushings (purple)
-Rebuilt front calipers, boots and pistons
-Replaced front rotors with Meyle HD rotors – when the car was bought it had all new brakes (pads and rotors) but the PO installed the front rotors backwards and they warped…
-Replaced front brake pads with HAWK performance ceramics
-added leak dye to power steering fluid reservoir
-added “strut” to RF lower control arm for headlight aiming module (missing when I bought the car)
-Re-aimed head lights
70,514 miles – resealed the lower oil pan
-modified the oil drain plug (PO stripped the pan and tapped it for a different plug, it didn’t fit well..)
-resealed passenger side oil valve (3 internal seals)
-installed new subframe bushings – powerflex street spec (yellow)
-installed new CV joint for drive shaft
-Fuel filter replaced
-Oil changed with 10w-60 Castrol TWS
-2 additional power steering lines replaced – fluid topped off with more Mobil 1 ATF
- powersteering reservoir mounts changed
-Transmission completely disassembled and all three parts resealed – new Pentosin fluid added
-Rear main seal replaced
-Drive belts replaced
-Thermostat replaced
71,254 miles – rear differential fluid replaced with synthetic Amsoil 75w90
71,519 miles – replaced differential with unit from M5Board member “NO SPARES” unit had 116K on it – no whines or clunking per this member
-changed the fluid out on this unit with Mobil 1 75w90
-removed seals from this unit and repositioned them into the correct orientation (owner had issues with it leaking as the seals were not installed properly.)
-added butyl between center support bearing and body of vehicle (2000MY vehicles did not have this but 2001-2003 M5s do..)
-Drivers side inner drive axle boot replaced
-Original differential was pulled out of vehicle to be rebuilt by ACP racing in Windsor Canada
-Black kidney grills installed
72,314 miles – Beisan anti-rattle kit installed
- Beisan O ring kit installed
-updated (2002+) camshaft spring washers installed
-new BMW O rings installed in VANOS solenoids
-new and updated BMW cam ring bolts installed
-new and updated cam shaft outer bolts installed (10.9 grade vs. original 8.8 grade)
-upper timing cover gaskets replaced
-new valve cover gaskets installed
-new throttle body gaskets installed
-new intake manifold top cover with new orings installed
-VANOS pressure accumulator screen cleaned out (have two spares)
-VANOS actuators cleaned out with custom 12v source
-cyclone oil separators cleaned out
-inspected timing chain guides at this time – minimal wear, looked OK
73,499 miles – E60 shifter installed (shorter throws)
-new OEM rear differential bushings installed
-All axle to differential bolts replaced
-4 CPS, camshaft position sensors replaced – FCP Euro lifetime warranty replacement
on these
- Ground control coilovers installed – street springs – camber plates in the front.
73,912 miles – oil changed with Castrol TWS 10w-60
-oil sample sent off to Blackstone Laboratories
-oil sample showed no excessive wear and no cause for concern, healthy engine
Known issues:
Drivers side front lock mechanism gets lazy/slow when the vehicle is not driven often
NVH - whine from rear of vehicle due to polyurethane subframe bushings
A couple dead pixels in the lower cluster screen - can still read text
