Description

For your consideration is my 1996 BMW Z3 1.9L I4. It has the automatic transmission with "manual" shift button, power windows, central locking system, cruise control, fog lights, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) (no Dynamic Stability Control ((DSC)), 4-way power driver and passenger seats, fog lights, front and side driver and passenger air bag system, 5 spoke aluminum wheels, OEM (original equipment manufacturer) AM/FM cassette radio which has a Simple 1st generation iPod, iPhone connection allowing music to be played through the CD changer function of the radio and air conditioning which is not currently operational due to the need for a new A/Ccompressor(no it doesn't just need a "charge"!).The heater and defroster work great.

I am the fifth care taker of this car and have owned it since July of 2008. It has never been in an accident but it has a few bruises. I have done most of the maintenance on the car myself with the help of my BMW factory trained technician friend. My wife and I purchased the car as a commuter car for her back when gas spiked to $4 per gallon. The car gets around 28 mpg. When she began working at home it became my commuter. I'd rather have had a manual transmission car but she can't operate them. This is the second of three BMW Z3's that we've owned and the first was identical to this car so I'm pretty familiar with them. I'll do my best to describe the car in the space allowed but if I haven't covered any areas of concern to future buyers, please do not hesitate to call, text or email me with any questions.

When I purchase the car it had spent it's time with previous owners in Florida and Georgia. It had a bunch of cracked interior parts damaged by the installation of an aftermarket stereo by an amateur installer that didn't understand how to remove and reinstall the interior pieces. It also needed a new convertible top. Other than that, it was mechanically sound and relatively well care for car. I purchased replacement parts and an OEM radio for the interior and installed a new top that I purchased online. The radio works well although the aftermarket radio generally sounded a little better. To improve the sound I installed a Pyramid amplifier/equalizer and Kenwood speakers in the kick panels with tweeters in the doors and Kenwood speakers in the panels behind the driver and passenger seats. The top installation took about ten hours and looks great and doesn't leak in the rain although a few drips will come in while in an automatic car wash.

In May of 2010, when the car had 73, 451 miles, I installed Kumho Ecsta SPT 225/50R-16 tires. They currently have about 5mm of tread depth and are probably still good for another 10K - 15K miles with proper rotation. In August of 2013, with 104,941 miles, the water pump and belt failed while traveling from Michigan back to my home in suburban Chicago. Thankfully, I was close to a train and the car was serviced and repaired locally in Indiana . At that time the water pump, thermostat housing, drive belt, fan clutch, pulley, fan bladeand A/C belt were all replaced along with, of course the coolant. In August of 2012 withapproximately 110,000 miles, the rotors, brake pads, brake sensors and brake fluid were all replaced. I do not have any documentation due to the purchase of parts through my aforementioned technician friend and the fact that we did the work ourselves. Since the car was already on the lift, we also replaced the front struts and rear shocks with new KYB units purchased from my neighbor who works for KYB. Other than the non-functioning air conditioner, the car needs a new battery. I'm haven't driven the car much in the last year since I'm not working, hence the reason for it's sale. The spare tire is not currently on the car but is included in the sale. I had to use it once and it was a bigger pain in the ash to reinstall than it was to remove it so I left it off. The car passed Illinois State Emission testing yesterday.

As you can see by the photos, the car has some bumps and bruises. There are numerous stone chips on the hood which I will touch up tomorrow with BMW OEM paint stick that will come with the car. The front hood dent near the grille and the crack in the upper center of the windshield happened while on my way to workwhen a truck tire tread hit the hood and windshield. The hood damage may be able to be repaired by a paint-less dent repair specialist. The bottom of the front faciawas cracked when I purchased the car and ithas chips along the bottom edge which could probably be repaired and painted for less than $200. The hood also has a couple of "dimples" from the front strut bar that I installed about four years ago. There is a dent behind the driver's door in front of the rear wheel that was there when I bought it and looks like a poor attempt at paint-less dent repair but doesn't show too much. There is a longish scratch above the driver's side rear wheel that appears to be only in the clear coat. I've touched it up a few times. There is a five or six inch indentation in the rear facia on the driver's side that happened when I backed up without looking first and bumped into an SUV's license plate. It was gentle but left a mark. This summer while the car was in the driveway while I remodeled my garage, a can of air freshener that was stored in the rearcompartment behind the seatsexploded and left some chemical discoloration to the storage bin coverin the center console, the speedometer clear plastic cover as well as a little "burn" of the rear window on the inside which doesn't really show much or interfere with rearward visibility. The driver's seat has a split seam. The steering wheel and shifter show signs of wear as you might expect on a twenty year old car with 120K miles. The passenger side BMW roundel has lost it's decal. The wheels are in great shape with no curb rash but there is some "checking" in some of the paint due to age but doesn't detract from the look of the wheels. The car has always been garaged while in my care and not driven in the snow and salt. Commuted with our truck during the winter months. Unfortunately, I don't have access to a lift so I haven't included any under body photos. I have the factory "boot" which covers the convertible top when in the stowed position and is included in the sale. The blanket which protects the rear window was purchased on eBay when I repaired the interior and is also included in the sale. The factory supplied tools in the trunk are present and also included.

I've attempted to list everything about the car as I don't think my ask is out of line with the age and condition of the car. Spring is a better time to sell but I'm not using the car and could use the garage space for my truck this winter. I will assist with the transport of the vehicle as necessary but any and all cost are the responsibility of the buyer. Inspections are encouraged and welcomed. The vehicle has a clean CarFax and free and clear title in my name. No reserve above the initial starting price. Again, please call email or text me (630.278.0070) if you have any questions, comments, concerns or would like to schedule an inspection of the car. Thank you for looking and bid to win!
