This car was originally sold to a banker in Easter Washington. He drove it until his death when it was inherited by his son. The son drove it a little bit for several years. It is 4 door trunk back sedan with a 248 CID displacement engine. The vehicle had an interior restoration sometime in the 70’s and repainted from its original Botticelli Blue to another 1937 factory Buick color, an Gough Green.
After a few years it was sold to a gentleman in Hood River Oregon who owned it for about 3 years, idn’t drive it very much and sold it to me in 1998. It has always been garaged. From what I have been able to find out the car had a base price of $970 and came from the factory with 3 options, unning board moldings, adio, nd a heater bringing the price up to about $1038. In 2001 I had the engine, ransmission, adiator, tarter, enerator, uel pump & clutch rebuilt. In addition a new wiring harness was installed using period correct materials. One of the country’s most knowledgeable and respected individuals, n 1937-1938 Buick engines, ebuilt the engine, ransmission & clutch. Based upon his recommendations the pistons were changed to 1940 model pistons, he block was bored out 30 over, arburetor was updated to the more reliable 1940 Carter 2 bbl downdraft, nd bearings were changed to a more modern style along with the addition of hardened valve seats. The water pump was also changed to the more reliable mid 1938 style to overcome the leaking problem of the original design. These changes slightly increased the compression and the vehicle now puts out about 107 HP. New exhaust system was also added. All brake linings replaced including new wheel cylinders, ew spring hardware and resurfacing of drums.
The car still rides on original style bias ply tube type tires. Now for the items that need attention. The radio was rebuilt but currently does not work. The gas gauge never worked as well as the horn. The starter was rebuild and a new regulator installed at the time of the major engine overhaul. The emergency brake cables were replaced but the slack in the main cable was never properly adjusted therefore excessive slack. The running boards are original and showing age. At the base of the trunk toward the right side there are approximately 8 small bubbles, bout the size of a pencil erasure or smaller, een there since I’ve had it. Very light surface rust is visible on the front floor boards. Since the overhaul I’ve put about 1500 miles on the car. Odometer states 51,130 and was represented to me as original but no documentation was provided to support that claim. Buyer needs to be aware this is only the miles stated on odometer and true mileage is unknown.
It is a fantastic runner, ill maintain freeway speed and then some with the best of them. It is fun to drive, ets a lot of looks, nd has won many awards. I’ve added Trippe Senior driving lights, lthough they are just for show. The license plates that are presently on the vehicle are not included in the sale. If the purchaser is from Oregon another set of 1937 Oregon plates will be provided.
