If you have a question about the Corvette. just give us a call. numbers Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts. but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example. all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly. item number description* VIN 1G1AY8765B5103029 The first digit. "1. quot; indicates that the US is the country of origin. Colvin's Corvette by the Numbers and Mike Antonick's Corvette Black Book. condition Exterior The Beige exterior is in very nice driver condition. As one can see in the photos. the paint has an good gloss. nice shine. and smooth finish. Both doors open and shut nicely and the car exhibits good body panel fit overall. The wheels are in great condition with a brilliant finish and no curb rash. The tires are newer with approximately 90% tread left and are correctly sized 255/60R15. All the glass is nicely tinted and really looks terrific with the beige exterior. There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. There are some small rock chips that are visible in the photos and other small blemishes around the car that were too faint to be picked up by the camera. but nothing that is really noticeable from about five feet away. This Corvette has no rust issues. As one can see in the many photos of the underside the frame is totally solid with no rust issues in front of the rear tire and I have seen no evidence of corrosion around the windshield. which are the two most common areas for rust on this era Corvette. This Corvette looks just as good in person as it does in the photos. Interior The Dark Blue leather interior of the Corvette is in good driver condition. The seats look in person just as they do in the photos with no excessive wear. but do have a few small splits in the common spots. The carpet is in decent original condition with no major stains. but there are a couple rips on the driver's side. which are visible in the photos. The rear carpet. which is often neglected. is in great original shape. The original door panels are excellent shape with no splits or tears and. unlike many Corvettes of this age. they fit well and tight to the door. The door pulls are solid and intact. The dash and center console look awesome with no splits. sun fading. or cracks. The original jack and jack handle are still with the car and stowed correctly behind the passenger seat. This car has no aroma of cigarettes whatsoever. The stereo has been upgraded to a modern Kenwood unit with direct mp3 hook up with 4 new speakers and it sounds awesome. The black original style T-Top bags are pictured below and included with the car. Corvette interiors are not known to wear well and the nice condition of this original interior is a testament to the care this car has received throughout its life. Mechanical This Corvette seems to be in good mechanical condition. The way this car runs and drives are some of its strongest points. It is an exceptional driver that feels great on the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph. braking to a stop. and going through some curves. Please note that there are no strange noises or vibrations and the car performs quite well overall. This Corvette starts right away every time and runs great. The transmission shifts well throughout the power band. The brakes do not pull to one side of the other. This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast. The exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers and no catalytic converter gives this car a throaty tone at idle and cruising speeds. Also. the engine compartment is beautifully clean and detailed as one can see in the photos. The horn works as do all the interior and exterior lights. all gauges. wipers. blower for the heater and a/c on all speeds. power windows. power seat in all directions. and even the power antenna works. The headlights go up and down with no binding and work from both the headlight switch on the dash and the override switch. The a/c is working and blows cold air. The only things not currently working that we are aware of is the power door locks. although they do work manually. and the check engine light. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car. especially with the T-tops out on a beautiful day. Overall Condition Overall. this 1980 Corvette is in terrific driver condition. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing. especially with unique cars like this. and as one can see this car is very correct. The originality. the rare and desirable color combination. and the great extent to which the numbers match make this car especially important and hard to duplicate. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. It is apparent that the vehicle has been well taken care of by its previous owners. The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased drastically over the past several years. They are secure and wise investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort. While we completely believe that this car has original mileage of 56. 15 the title is marked as "Nonactual. quot; most likely due to a typo on a previous document years ago. The previous owner also thought the mileage was actual. Items like the original interior simply do not hold up over time and literally could not look this good after 156. 00 miles. The Autocheck report on the car shows consistent and correct mileage readings until 9-30-2003 when an emissions inspections station mistakenly marked the car as having 153. 00 miles. which is physically impossible since this year Corvette only has a 5 digit odometer. Since that date the mileage has been deemed incorrect. This 1981 Corvette is in great driver condition. We have this car priced very well. It is hard to find a 1980-81 Corvette that looks this good. drives this well. and is this correct for anything near our asking price. In our experience the 1980-81 model years draw a small premium over the other late C3 Corvettes. These are the most refined and modern driving of all the third generation Corvettes. as well as the last years to feature carburation.
