Description

1935 was a transitional year for Chevrolet, nd if you like the old-school look of upright windshields and just a hint of streamlining, his is the very best year to own. This 1935 Chevy Standard Coach (that's two-door sedan to most of us) is an appealing older restoration that's still in great shape and ready to tour. No, ou won't find that bright turquoise color on the factory paint charts in 1935, ut it is quite attractive, on't you think? The two-door body style is more practical than a coupe but not quite as stodgy as a 4-door sedan, ffering a sleek look with a practical side. The flowing fenders and unique hood vents offer a sleek, lowing look and despite being about 15 years old, he paint looks to be in great shape. All the bodywork is steel, f course, nd the doors fit well, he hood lines up right, nd it's pretty obvious that the car was always straight and clean, ven prior to the restoration given that much of the framing was still made of wood in 1935. The grille will be instantly recognizable to the bowtie faithful and nice chrome bumpers give the car a much more expensive look than you'd expect at this price (then and now!).If you've been in the hobby for any amount of time, ou'll recognize that a Hampton Coach interior is about as authentic as it gets. Handsome gray cloth offers a soft contrast to the turquoise paint and replicates what might have been in the car when it was new. Simple door panels, leated seats, nd a color-matched dashboard all re-create 1935 when even the low-cost cars looked and felt like quality. Note that the passenger's side bucket seat slides forward for access to the rear seat area, here there's plenty of stretch-out room. Gauges arrayed in the center of the dash cover all the vital information and the transmission is a familiar 3-speed so it's easy to rive no matter what your skill level with old cars might be. The seats show minimal use, he gray carpets are still excellent, nd overall this car still presents rather well. The engine is a familiar Chevrolet inline-six with overhead valves, nd that continuity over the years is why this 1958 engine fits so neatly in the 1935 chassis. A downdraft carburetor and oil bath air cleaner offer snappy throttle response, hile the exhaust has a great grumble that will remind you of old movies where everyone was driving a car like this. Corporate blue engine enamel gives it a no-nonsense look under the hood and you will note that the electrical system has been upgraded to 12 volts, o no more hard starts. Underneath, t's still a ladder frame and rigid axles fore and aft, ut the relatively lightweight Chevy feels agile and eager around town and the ride is quite comfortable overall. It was obviously cleaned up and detailed when it was restored, lthough it now shows signs of use that only mean the car is roadworthy and eager to be driven. Handsome wire wheels with proper wide whitewall tires round out the classic '30s look.Complete with a rare owner's manual, his clean Chevy offers an affordable way to get into the old car hobby that's also stylish, ractical, nd easy to drive.
