Got this project from a good friend, e was getting ready for a trip to Washington to visit his brother in his just completed '62 monza... was on his way to fill it up with gas for the departure the next morning when things went bad... yes, e was involved in a one car accident, it a telephone pole with the left front avoiding a trailer coming at him. He found and bought a '61 donor but never got around to doing the swap(he's in his mid seventies and just doesn't have the motivation anymore). I had a Jaguar that he was interested in so we traded. Had the two Corvairs stored for several years. Met and married my wife and decided to do the car for her, ere is the result(as it turns out she is too tall and long legged for this car, he also would really like a/c and a better heater, an't blame her as it is in the teens here in the winter and in the1-teens in the summer). The car was absolutely rust free and has no replacement sheet metal. It was an automatic car. I put entire rear cradle and engine/transmission from '62 in this '61. Bought many thousands of dollars of parts from Clark's Corvairs to do the restoration. Two stage paint is beautiful.Engine compartment is original paint( both inside and outside were painted in original colors). All rubber seals and weatherstripping was replaced. Rear bumper was re-plated, ront bumper is original. Polished all stainless. All interior is new including bucket seat foam, eatcovers, oor panels, eadliner, carpet, ash pad, ardboard kit, illplates, oor handles and window cranks, arm rests and bases, tc etc.etc.I went all out on this project as it was for my wife. The car is stunning and runs and drives excellent.
