The 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle is one of those timeless designs that looks good no matter how the car is built. Stock, odified, ace, ro-touring, hatever; the clean lines and balanced stance on these tough looking muscle cars create a modern look with classic swagger that is an excellent platform for major modifications. Best of all, heir universal appeal and high production numbers mean that the Chevelle has one of the largest networks of aftermarket support in the collector car hobby. Born from that awesome combination of appeal and support, his convertible 1970 Chevelle mixes traditional good looks and drop-top fun with serious modern performance hardware.
BODYWORK/TRIM
When searching for the perfect pro-touring Chevelle, here is no shortage of hard top coupes. But when one wants the appeal and fun of a convertible mixed with custom good looks, ou have to search a little harder. RK Motors Charlotte presents you this handsome 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle convertible. Covered in a vivid coat of Flame Red and accented by painted White stripes, his drop-top does a great job of showing off the car's chiseled, thletic lines that are complemented with traditional looks. Due to being fresh out of a frame-off restoration that was completed in 2015, he stainless trim presents very well and the chrome pieces adorning the body show mirror-like reflections. The front fenders are dressed with "SS LSX" branded badges in the conventional locations, hile a "Chevelle by Chevrolet" badge rests on the rear trunk lid. Authentic 'T3' headlights, eated in very clean bezels, lank the 'SS' branded grill. And with the white, inyl top up or down, he complete package looks great sitting on polished 18'' Billet Specialties wheels.
ENGINE
Release the hood pins to reveal a Chevrolet Performance supplied, lectronic fuel injected LS376 V8 that is rated for 525 horsepower! Cradled in satin black fenders and a flattened firewall, he engine bay is well sorted and highlighted with faux carbon fiber accents throughout. A polished alternator and A/C compressor spin on a Billet Specialties Tru Trac serpentine system with polished pulleys, hile cooling comes from an aluminum C&R Racing radiator with dual speed electric fans. Supplementing the internal combustion of the 6.2L engine are Hedman headers that help the engine breath, nd Fast Fuel rails that provide fuel to the cylinders. Adding a bit of flash is a polished brake booster and master cylinder, nd billet hood hinges provide support while onlookers admire the clean engine bay.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
Backing the 525 horsepower LS3 is a proven Tremec T56 6-speed manual transmission. Used in factory applications such as the Dodge Viper and Chevrolet Corvette, he T56 is no stranger to high-horsepower muscle cars and is a favorite among pro-touring enthusiasts. It spins power to a tough, osi-traction 12 bolt rear axle that is stuffed with 3.70 gears, aking the perfect combination of mind-blowing acceleration and highway-friendly cruising. Exhaust travels through a mandrel bent exhaust system that breathes through Magnaflow mufflers and has a great contrast against the satin black floors. To create a pleasant driving experience beyond horsepower and torque, he builders of this Chevelle put a lot of thought into the handling of the car and upgraded the suspension with a 4-link rear and tubular control arms at both ends with Hotchkis components. At all four corners you'll find Viking coilover adjustable shocks, s well as power disc brakes that feature cross-drilled and slotted rotors for extra cooling. Front and rear sway bars further stiffen the chassis, hile 2 inch drop spindles give the car an appealing stance. That stance sits on staggered 18 inch Billet Specialties wheels that are wrapped in 245/45R18 front and 285/40ZR18 rear Nitto NT555 Extreme ZR tires.
INTERIOR
Open the doors to a classic interior that's been enhanced with some modern amenities. At first glance, he white vinyl interior makes for a nice contrast with the black dash and black carpets. Nestled in the dash is Dakota digital VHX gauges that are housed in the factory locations, nd Vintage Air climate controls keep cabin temperatures comfortable. A traditional AM/FM radio deck has iPod connectivity with CD controls, nd powers hidden speakers located throughout the cabin. Familiar Strato bucket seats center a black console that houses a chrome hurst shifter, opped by a white cue ball knob. And connecting the driver to the machine is a traditional 3-spoke steering wheel that operates a power steering system. And behind the passengers, he trunk is finished with a clean and correct mat and houses the re-located battery.
