2000 Indianapolis Brickyard 400 Camaro SS Convertible Car #10 Included with the car is the following: Registration for track useMSOOriginal title and registrationFactory window stickerRace day programBoth original keys and remotesParade boot for when the top is down. How many of us out there can say that we have an opportunity to purchase a Pace Car that was actually at the track with real low miles. all original paint/graphics. documentation. powerful and affordable? Typically. when someone mentions that they have a ‘Pacecar’. it’s usually a very nice replica that was delivered directly to the qualifying car dealership (from the factory to the showroom). and then to the buyer’s garage. This car not only was at the track on race day. it is strongly believed that it carried both NASCAR legends Darrell Waltrip (http://en. wikipedia. org/wiki/Darrell_Waltrip ) and Bobby Labonte ( http://www. bobbylabonte. com/ ). whose win in the 2000 Brickyard helped propel him to that season’s Sprint Cup championship that year. The original owner of this car bought three cars from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway that day. and is a noted Camaro aficionado. He specifically targeted the first three cars in the festival car lineup. numbers 9. 10. and 11. Why those numbers? As a collector. he was looking to buy the cars with the most interesting race day stories. and by picking the top three cars. he ensured that he had the first car (#9) with the pole sitter (Ricky Rudd) in it. followed by the second car (#10. This car) which happened to have the winner (Bobby Labonte) of the race in it. Car #11. had Dale Jarrett (who won the previous Brickyard 400 in 1999 and the Daytona 500 earlier in 2000) and Kyle Petty (NASCAR Person of the Year) in it. Chevrolet provides the cars for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway each year for the race. and it is difficult to get one with the race day graphics on it. unless you know the right people. and are there for the race. This car still has its graphics. which originally was intended for use just on race day. then the graphics were to be removed and the car sold through the dealership after the race. with the only way to tell if it was special was to reference the VIN number. That year. there were 55 cars delivered to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. and as of this year. 16 are left with the original graphics. The other cars typically have lost their race day graphics either by wear and tear. and or dealership removal. Another interesting factoid about this #10 car. is that it was the last car in the festival lineup that had the large Chevrolet hood emblem installed in the hood due to the fact it was very difficult to lay the decal completely flush with the hood scoop without tearing or introducing any bubbles. The rest of the cars (#11 to 55) either had the smaller decal or no Chevy emblem on the hood. Cars #1 to 9 had either the large decal or nothing on the hood also. All of the 55 Arctic White SS festival Cars used in the 2000 Brickyard race came optioned with black convertible tops. ebony leather seats. 4-speed automatic transmissions. ASR traction control systems and the AM/FM Monsoon 500-Watt sound system with CD player. Also included were the Preferred Equipment Group 1 and SS Performance Package which contained the options shown below. The window sticker price was $34. 65. SS Performance Package Preferred Equipment Group 1 · 320 HP Version of the LS1 V8 (SLP) · Power Door Locks · Forced-air induction hood · Cruise Control · Low restriction. mandrel bent exhaust with dual outlets · Remote hatch/trunk release · Foglamps · Performance axle (with Positraction) · Power windows with driver’s side Express-Down feature · Power steering cooler · Dual remote electric sport mirrors · Speed-rated P275/40ZR-17 Goodyear Eagle F1 tires · New restyled aluminum wheels · Exclusive high-level rear spoiler with LED brake light · Leather wrapped steering wheel. transmission shifter and parking brake handle · Remote keyless entry system with illuminated interior feature · Theft-deterrent system · Power seat (6-way driver) · Moldings: Body-side. color-keyed · Floor mats. carpeted rear There’s always been speculation about how when a manufacturer sends cars to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for official duty. they usually arrive with a ‘little extra’ in the power department. Also. Chevrolet has had a reputation with their performance cars of understating the horsepower. This particular car pulled 289 HP at the rear wheels on a chassis dyno. which when translated back to the crank. comes out to 361 HP!!! Quite a bit above the 320 HP rated from the factory with no other ‘hop-ups’. Was it ‘tuned’ for Indy or was it just Chevy’s extra touch? This power was made running regular unleaded fuel. no need for premium or race fuel unless you want to see if it tweaks it up a bit more in performance. The car has been very well kept. as exemplified by the condition of the race day graphics. as well as the undercarriage. which is amazingly clean for a car with a low 23k miles. This is not a museum piece. but can be driven. enjoyed. and shown with pride. and will stand out amidst the other contemporary muscle cars. This Camaro has the performance that matches the cars from back in the day. but with the reliability and ability to drive anywhere without worries. Keep your foot light on the gas pedal. and you’ll even get fantastic gas mileage! The fortunate winner of this auction will be the proud new owner of this car. Along with the car comes a folder full of documentation. which includes the Registration for track use. MSO. original title and registration. factory window sticker. race day program. and much more. Both keys and remotes are included with the sale. along with the parade boot for when the top is down. so you’ll be ready to lead your own local parade. There are some good pictures here that show just how clean this car truly is. I am happy to talk with you about the car. I have owner history from new and have corresponded with the original owner on several occasions. Overall the car really needs nothing and it’s ready to drive and show right now!!! 1.
