You can sum up this 1955 Chevrolet pickup in just one word: vivid. Glowing copper-colored paint, ust the right amount of chrome, nd a cool old-school powerplant under the hood give this hauler the right credentials to qualify for the slickest truck we've seen in a long time.Getting attention has never been difficult for these trucks, ut the brilliant Corvette Sunset Orange paint will have folks stopping in their tracks. Repainted a few years ago, t still looks so good that you'll be tempted to touch it to see if it's still wet. The all-new Task Force pickups had a distinct familial resemblance to the Chevy motorcars that year, nd was one of the biggest steps forward in civilizing the utilitarian pickup. As a result, ustoms like this look especially smooth, hanks to their curve-hugging bumpers, gg crate grille, nd hooded fenders. Some of the original trim was shaved during the build, eaving only the important design elements in place and giving the rest of the truck a more modern look. Workmanship is quite good, ith great fit and finish throughout, specially out back where the fully finished wood bed is a knockout. Great prep gives the finish an ideal surface and even with that high-visibility paint, he details tend to stand out as the light plays over the truck's many intricate design elements. Things get better inside, here a pair of gray leather buckets take the place of the vinyl-covered bench. The seats themselves are from a late-model pickup or SUV, nd they show some wear but it seems to work well here. Other details include a tilt steering column and matching OEM steering wheel, aking it easy to get comfortable in that replacement seat. A full array of Stewart-Warner gauges have a retro look and work well with the original speedometer in the center, nvisibly blending stock and modified. Gray carpets on the floor add a luxurious feel and help control noise and heat, o it feels comfortable under just about any conditions. An AM/FM/CD stereo system provides the entertainment, nd all the weather seals are new, o it seals up nicely to keep things quiet on the highway. The engine is a cool 292 cubic inch inline-6 with a bunch of upgrades that'll make you forget about small block V8s. These upgrades include a solid-lifter camshaft, 4-barrel Holley carburetor, nd an electronic ignition system, nd nothing else feels as silky smooth as a straight-6 motor. It's detailed with a bit of chrome, ome body-colored details like the air cleaner, alve cover, nd power steering pump, nd the engine bay was obviously smoothed to give it a show-quality look. The wiring and plumbing was cleverly hidden and with a big radiator up front, t doesn't sweat hot days. It's linked to a 700R4 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission and a 10-bolt rear end with 3.73 gears inside, o it's punchy around town and effortless on the highway. A snarky dual exhaust system gives the six a soundtrack and with a suspension and frame borrowed from a full-size Blazer, t can cruise easily on today's roads, nd it's still more than happy to work as a truck. Color-matched Rally wheels with spinners and trim rings carry fat 245/60/15 front and 275/60/15 rear BFGoodrich radials that fill the wheel wells in appropriate truck style.Smooth, ttractive, nd with a strong powerplant, his is the truck that people don't realize they love until they see it.
