Description

1959 Chevrolet Biscayne

This one-of-a-kind custom restoration incorporates the engine and hubcaps from a ’59 Corvette to amp up the already beautiful ’59 Chevy Biscayne

  • Original 43,000 mile car
  • Frame off restoration – complete nut and bolt resto
  • Motor - 283ci, ual quad, mall block V-8 from a 1959 Corvette
  • Turbo 350 transmission
  • Batwing air cleaner (very rare)
  • Air bag suspension
  • All original (un-restored) gauges, ash, witches, eater control unit
  • Disc brakes
  • Wheels are one-of-a-kind, esigned and fabricated specifically for this car
  • Hubcaps are from a ‘59 “big brake” Corvette (originals - not reproductions)
  • Car retains its original rust free sheet metal/body panels, lass, rame, nterior/dash and 95%+ of its original chrome

This amazing Biscayne custom (some may call it a restomod) started the restoration process as a super clean unrestored car with only 43,000 original miles. The car still retains all of its original sheet metal, ody panels, lass, rame, nterior, ashboard, auges, eater control switches, nobs. On top of that, 5% of the chrome on the car is original.

In 1959 they made a Biscayne, el Air and the Impala. The Biscayne was the least expensive model in the Chevrolet full-size car range. The absence of most exterior and fancy interior trimmings remained through the life of the series, s the slightly costlier Chevrolet Bel Air offered more interior and exterior trimmings at a price significantly lower than the mid-line Chevrolet Impala. The Biscayne was the bottom of the food chain in 1959, hus most were driven hard and long, agged out and thrown away. Somehow this car only was driven 43,000 miles.

The paint on this car is absolutely beautiful. Most cars look good in pictures and then once you see them in person, p close, ou see all the flaws. I took a bunch of close up pictures to attempt the show the quality of the paint but none of them showed the detail I wanted. This paint actually looks better in person than the pictures portray. The paint has zero swirl marks, ero spider webbing, ero blemishes.

Anybody that knows even a little about old cars knows that there are always “kinks” that have to be worked out after such and extensive restoration. This car was nodifferent. I spent over $13k ironing out the details making sure the car is in excellent working order. I have updated the air bag system, nstalled a new aluminum radiator and fan, t has a rebuilt original water pump and all the windows roll up and down perfectly. The car starts every time, uns great, /font>sounds AMAZING and is an absolute blast to drive. The air ride system works great and gives you many different options to raise and lower the car. All the lights (headlights, riving lights, aillights), linkers and electrical all work well. The doors and trunk close super solid……like solid steel cars built in the 50’s should.

The motor is a totally rebuilt small block 283 ci from a 1959 Corvette. It has dual quad carburetors (tuned and professionally tweaked) and is linked to a fresh turbo 350 tranny that was also rebuilt during the restoration. It is dressed to perfection to fit the era and it not only runs fantastic but as you can see fromthe pictures, t looks amazing.

As previously mentioned, he car has been frame off restored thus the undercarriage is super clean and correct. The wheels were custom designed and fabricated specifically for this car (one of a kind). The rear wheels are 22” (265/35 R22) and the fronts are 20” (255/35 ZR20). The best part is that the center caps are from a 1959 Corvette “Big Brake” car. These are not reproduction center caps…they are the real deal and very rare. The idea behind the build was to create a car that Chevy may have constructed if they decided to mate a Corvette with a Biscayne in 1959.

This car was not only built to compete for the concours trophies, t was built to be driven and enjoyed. She gets a plethora of attention (a little understated). On occasion I will take the car out to some of our favorite evening hot spots. When arriving the Ferrari’s and Lambos get completely ignored…..on many occasions the valets will pull out said cars so the “Biscuit” can park up front (don’t worry a valet has never touched the keys). I am not sure if this is important to the sale, ut if you buy the car….you will see!!

Since completion (April ’13) this car has always/only been stored in climate-controlled environments. Period.

I have showed the car at several high end car events. Here are some of the trophies earned:

  • ISCA AutoRama (International Show Car Association – National show circuit) – Best in class
  • O’Rielly Auto Parts Spring Show – First Place
  • Keels and Wheels Concours D’Elegance (invite only show) – Silver Award
  • Corvette and Chevy Expo – 2013 – Second place
  • Corvette and Chevy Expo – 2014 – Second place

The car takes home a trophy every show!! I kinda consider the second place trophies as being first place as each time I took a second it was at big shows. The cars that took first place in my class where vehicles that people spent several hundreds of thousands of dollars (+) to restore and they were cars that travel the country hitting the show circuit for points. They are cars that have never been driven, ell….the tires have plastic on the tread when they come out of the trailers. So to have a car that gets driven to the show (not trailered), can live with a second place finish. The show signage and the trophies convey with the car.

The gas gauge work intermittently. On a couple occasions I strongly considered replacing the entire gauge assembly, ut I could not find gauges that were duplicates of the originals. I really like the fact that this car has all of its original dash, witches, auges, tc. There are many aftermarket options for gauge replacements, ut it just didn’t feel right to me to replace such an original timeless piece with digital gauges. I also don’t have the heater hooked up…I live in Houston, ever needed it, ever cared. Everything else works great!
