Description

1981 Chevrolet Silverado In the 13 years that I’ve owned this truck I’ve spent a lot of time and money upgrading and customizing it. It started as a fully loaded Silverado 1500 and now has all of the heavy duty ¾ ton drive train. Priorities have changed and it’s time to finance another project. Instead of lying to yourself about what it’s going to take to fix up the rusted wreck that isn’t really the jewel that it is in your imagination. why not start here instead? You’ll be much further ahead financially and driving now! Engine Very rare and desirable 400 small block with 4 bolt mains. The block was clearanced for and has the 5. 7 rods instead of the stock ones. and has custom pistons that are . 30 over. making it 408 CI’s. Double hump heads (don’t know the casting numbers off hand) with appropriate thickness head gaskets to keep the compression down. All machine work and assembly was done by “J&B Engines” of Cody Wyoming in 2007 for $1725. 0 (Have receipt) labor only. It now has an estimated 15. 00 miles on it. Weiand Intake. Edelbrock Carb Drivetrain SM465 4 speed transmission- converted from the Turbo 400 that was in it. NP205 transfer case 2 custom drive shafts built by Inland 14 Bolt Full Floater rear axle 3:73 gears. blasted. epoxy primed. new seals/bearings in 2005 1 Ton rear springs from Camper Special ¾ Ton 10 Bolt Corporate front Axle. rebuilt from bare housing with upgraded 30 spline Yukon axles. Posi-Traction unit. Warn Premium hubs. 3:73 gears. all new seals and bearings in 2005 Body Very nice rust free. wreck free body was the projects base but now has a couple of minor flaws. The driver’s side cab corner drain hole was plugged by the Reflex spray on bedliner and is now rusted. One of the pictures will show that. I didn’t trim the back corners of the front fenders when I added the 35 inch Goodyear’s and the tires have hit and bent the fender corners. Please see pic’s. A deer crashed into the driver’s door and it had to be replaced with a good used one. A local shop handled the repair but the Reflex liner was replaced by matching black paint instead. There are some random and light dents from hail damage on the hood. fender tops and roof. I was unable to photograph them as the light has to be just right for them to be noticeable. Despite these flaws. the overall look of the truck is very straight and presentable. Reflex spray on liner around bottom of truck. on brush guard. in front wheel wells. bed and bed rails. inside passenger compartment on floor. kick panels. behind seat. By Sorin’s in Cody Wy in 2006 Paint is PPG with flattening agent added and is showing its age. The most notable flaws are peeling on the driver’s fender and on the tailgate. This is not some beater truck with a rattle can paint job and was mostly taken to bare steel and blocked to arrow straight before painting 10 years ago. Needs it again. maybe in black this time? Added D-rings and brush guard from an Army CUCV truck. reinforced frame to accept upgraded mounting brackets. Covered with Reflex liner. Inside of front wheel wells are also coated with Reflex to cut down on road noise. Interior Entire floor pan. kick panels. bottom of doors (not driver’s since replaced after deer hit) and behind seat were sprayed with Reflex liner. Sound deadener was glued down and a molded carpet set was added. Aftermarket cloth seat. new GM door panels. molded dash cover. aftermarket stereo. tinted windows. replaced window seals. new windshield. All Air conditioning components are still in place but it stopped working about 8 years ago. Power windows. locks. tilt steering wheel. sliding rear window. Suspension-Tires-Brakes 4” Rough Country lift kit. nbsp;16” Rock Crawler wheels. nbsp;35” Goodyear MTR tires with Kevlar (Please see pics for tread depth) spare tire has less tread but had to be used after sidewall was ruined on another. Most steering components (if not all) have been replaced but it’s been probably 10 years. Steering is still tight and it goes down the road straight. It is probably time to replace the rear brake shoes again. Known Issues Speedo reads slow due to oversize tires Temp guage stopped working during dashpad cover install. AC quit working Head liner is out but roof is painted body color Eyebrow moldings off on grill corners Shoulder seat belts missing Light hail damage and other small body issues as mentioned Bed liner torn in one spot as shown in picture Exhaust system is lame and needs replaced with something bigger and better sounding. MiscFactory dual front shocks Has block heater Dual gas tanks Aluminum radiator Custom tool box under hood Has nice and high quality headers with very thick flangesReceiver hitchTrailer brakesStep bars Truck is 34 years old and will need work as expected.
