Description

Hi all. Up for sale is a 61 Chrysler Newport Wagon. I found this wagon in a chicken coop here in Utah. It had been resting there since 1978. The vehicle is from Colorado which explains why it has very little rust. The only rust I can see is the LF fender (see picture), it looks like it is pushing some spots out from the inside. I got the engine running and drove it for 5 years. The trans even still worked. Then it broke a rocker shaft so I decided to upgrade it with a 440/727 (69 engine). I rebuilt both of them and slid it in. They run great. I still have the original everything which goes with the car. This car still had the original exhaust system with no holes (WOW!). And the dash speaker still is soft & works. (except last year the radio stopped working). I did replace the carpet and put carpet in the rear cargo area. I added a clock with the quarts movement. The power pack for the electroluminecent lighting sometimes stops working. The e-brake ratchet mechanism needs some attention. I redid all the brakes & wheel cylinders. The tires are new. The tail lights were missing when I got the car (probably because they were so nice). I have never seen an old car with such nice pot-metal. The rear power window works. The only major dent on the car is a crease horizontally down the right rear quarter panel. It is not too bad and could be pounded out. The dash pad is cracked but looks pretty good. The door panels are not perfect, but close to it. The headliner is still there, a bit saggy, but you rarely see them still surviving. It get so much attention & thumbs up when I drive it. The heater core needs replacing. I have it bypassed. It started to leak last year. The seats are splitting on the bottoms. SMS has the exact material for the seats. I added the RF mirror with a repro. The paint is all original except I had to paint the RF door from the chrome strip down and the top of the fin between the chrome and the side window on the LR. I hate to sell this awesome machine but other priorities have come up. If you need any more pictures or questions answered please ask. I am just outside of Salt Lake City, Utah. My reserve is 17K. I have been offered 15k a few times and that was before the engine install. Thanks for looking ! Mopar or no car ! Cory J.
