Check this out! I built this from the ground up in about a year, t squeaks, attles, crubs and gets crazy attention when driven out! Oh yeah, usty too. The "truck" started out as a 1974 c10 long bed. Cab and engine was slid way back and a frame was mid chopped to drop the body. What I was visioning while building this was to have a really short rear and long nose, look kind of like a viper!
It is static ride height, ery low and scrubs the rockers and frame sometimes. Would be more comfortable riding with air bag suspension, ut that was not a big deal to me. Can get in and out of most places, ut I try to avoid big speed bumps and steep driveways. Engine is a carbed 5.3 LS engine I got from a salvage yard with approx. 150,000 miles with mother thumper cam, sd ignition (6010 box) runs the stock LS coil on plug. Sounds pretty rowdy through the flowmaster exhaust. Transmission is a 350 turbo with decent size converter. Rear tires are 325/50/15 on 10 wheels and front wheels are factory. Rear end is crazy looking! It is based off a parallel 4 link that I used leaf springs for links and it uses coil over shocks for ride height adjustment with a diagonal link to keep the rear going straight. Front steering is factory in regards to gear box, tc. Has a small aluminum radiator with factory LS water pump and manual fan that keeps the engine nice and cool in the hot summer days. Front grill is a custom built piece me and my son came up with one afternoon.
Cab has extensive work. The stock frame was cut out and was replaced with rectangle tube so it could be dropped. Once this was accomplished the floor/transmission tunnel was put back in, t is stitched in with various small/larger pieced of metal, ome from the original floor and some not. The seat is solid metal and has a "yoga" mat glued to it for a little extra cushion. No springs or padding in this seat bottom, ol! Seat back is factory that was in pretty rough shape, o it got the duct tape cover (it is padded and very comfortable on the back).
Top has been cut and sectioned. It was initially dropped 8", ut I soon realized I could not sit in it for extended periods of time so I had to raise it 2". It's still really low, 'm 5'10" and fit, ut my hat/head touches the roof if I sit straight up. I cut the top into four pieces and then attached the pieces to the pillars and got them to lean the way I wanted then welded the metal filler in on the top in an overlap joint. Front and rear windows are lexan and there are no side windows at all.
Fuel system is pretty simple, eg for fuel cell and electric pump under cell and the fuel lines are routed up high so the don't drag. The exhaust is high and through a portion of the cross member frame under the cab. The rockers and frame are the low points and drag if anything does. The factory oil pan had to be shorted so that it could be above the engine k member, his is leaking a little. Speedometer works, ut is off about 10mph fast due to size difference from factory. Has manual volt gauge, il pressure and water temperature. No interior lights.
Lots of odds and end details I'm sure I'm leaving out. This thing was a blast to build and is even more fun to drive and talk about. It is guaranteed to be a conversation piece no matter where you go. It looks crazy and different for sure and this is the only rat rod I have ever seen in this body style. One of a kind for sure. The great thing about these, s it seems you can never stop seeing things you would like to do to it.
Truck runs and drives great! Everything is solid mounted (cab, ngine) so it does have some vibrations. It does have power steering and power brakes!
Low reserve at 5000! This truck is for sale locally as well, reserve the right to end this auction early if local sale.
