1987 SILVERADO SHORTBED 5.7 LITER / 700R4 OD
Up for auction is a 87 Silverado with the 5.7 Fuel injected V8w/ Overdrive transmission. As you may well know this was the last year for the square body and first year for the TBI fuel injection on these trucks.
I have owned this truck for well over 10 years and drove it daily up until about 8 months ago. It has been in my garage since then and it’s time to let it go. I am going to tell you the good, he bad, nd ugly on this truck and show you with pics the questionable areas that need attention. There is also a video of a walk around and it running. Let’s get started, /p>
Body:
The truck still looks good from a distance but the paint is probably about 12 years old. It has seen a little too much Fla sun and it is done. It had one repaint before I purchased it and from what I know now the painter used a type of silicone sealer instead of an approved body seam sealer. This helped create the rust areas you see in the door jamb “A” pillar area and the firewall seam. As you will see in the pictures it is in need of a driver’s side cab corner and will need rust repair in other areas. The truck bed has a 2 small dents on the inside 1 on the bed floor 1 on the front panel. Bed cover has gottenold and brittle and will need the cover replaced.
Drivetrain & suspension:
The truck shows 121,000 miles and I believe those to be accurate up to around 100,000 when the speedometer went nuts and read like 75mph when it was going 50mph eventually the needle quit working but still racked up miles at a faster pace. The engine and transmission still work great and nothing has been modified and still includes its original pollution control system, atalytic converter and exhaust system. Still has the factory spare tire tucked under the bed. I lowered the truck when I first got by using 2” Western Chassis drop spindles in the front and Western Chassis 4” drop rear leaf springs, o brackets on the frame were touched. At the same time I added Nitro drop shocks to complete the lowering. I still have the original front spindles and rear leaf springs, nd factory rally style rims with beauty rings and center caps if someone wants to bring it back to original.
Interior:
Interior is still in good shape with the exception of the seat cover which has deteriorated over the years. The carpet is still nice but faded in some areas. The headliner is in good shape though it has a slight sag in the center, ust needs to be re glued. All factory trim is still intact. I purchased a new OEM dash from GM dealer not long after I bought the truck due to the original was cracked. At that time I added some JL Audio 3” corner speakers for a future stereo upgrade ( never got to do this ). The radio intermittingly works when it wants.
Mechanical:
The cruise control is all there but never worked since my purchase. Never took the time to trace down the problem with it. This truck has the dual tank option and one of the fuel pumps in the tank gave up. I just recently installed a new water pump and radiator. After driving on the interstate for appx. 15 miles or so the check engine light will come on and it has done that from the day I got it. I was told it may have a bad EGR valve which sets a C/E code, t never affected the drive ability. Air conditioning still blows cold.
Overall this was my daily driver and as much as I don’t want to sell it I realized I don’t have the time to devote to another restoration. This truck is an excellent candidate for either a total resto back to original or take it in maybe a Pro Street direction or giving it your own personal touches. These trucks are highly desirable and finding such an all original truck like this is getting hard as most have already been modified to someone else’s ideas.
In closing I have described this truck to the best of what I know during the last 10-11 yrs of ownership and have no reason to hide anything. If you have any other questions feel free to e-mail me, end me a message through e-bay and I will give you my phone number so that we can discuss any issues over the phone.
Will ship if buyer sets up transportation and payment on their end.
