1965 Hillman Super Minx Estate This car originally came out of the Washington D.C area. It still has a Dealer Sticker from Bethesda Maryland on the tailgate. The owner must have been a real traveler because there are stickers on the tailgate from places as far apart as North Carolina and South Dakota! That probably explains the rear axle having been exchanged for one from a Sunbeam Alpine which probably gave it higher speeds and better economy. Sunbeam and Hillman were made by the same company and many of the parts are interchangeable. Chrysler imported Hillman for a few years and then badge engineered the later models as Chryslers. The Super Minx was made at the same time they make the Hillman Husky and the Sunbeam Alpines and Tigers. Again, any of the parts were interchangeable. I’ve collected Hillman for many years and the Super Minx Estate is one of the rarest I’ve found. In the years I’ve owned it, spent most my efforts on the mechanics. The engine is in excellent condition and runs well. It’s recently had a full tune-up including plugs, oints, ondenser, istributor cap and wires. The car had sat for some time when I got it so I had the fuel tank removed, leaned, elined and repainted. With the fresh tank I installed all new fuel lines and had the carburetor rebuilt. The brakes were also fully serviced with new wheel cylinders, ew shoes in the back and new calipers in the front. The master cylinder was also rebuilt. The car runs and drives, hifts and stops. The tires were replaced and the wheels were all repainted. What’s left mechanically is the emergency brake and to finish sorting out the electrics. The interior is in remarkable shape. There is a small cut in the driver’s seat and it all needs a very good cleaning. The side panels in the back need to be recovered but the cards are there. Though, hey’d have been done in teak wood if I had kept it. There‘s lots of pictures in the link.Mostly, he car needs paint and bodywork. There’s virtually no rust underneath and I did my best to try to take pictures of the underside. The rocker panels had been replaced when I got it but there's one small spot at the back of one of them that needs finish welding. Most of what needs to be done is bodywork on the right rear passenger door which looks to have been hit along the front edge. The right front fender has some body damage and there’s a small hole in the bottom of wheel lip of the left front fender that might have been from some sort of original damage but is now a rust hole. One of the hinges on the bottom tail-gate needs a bit of weld repair. The exhaust leaks badly, hich you’ll hear in the video. You’ll also see a picture of a complete NOS exhaust system which comes with the car. I also have spare glass for both rear side windows and the rear tail-gate window. The existing windows are fine, t just came with spares! All the rest of the glass is great and the windows all work. I have a new rubber gasket for the windshield which I will give you. Any obviously missing or damaged side trim has been replaced and will come with the car. I still have Hillman Super Minx convertible that I will keep because it’s already restored and on the road. I’ve collected a lot of spare parts which I’m sorting through right now to see if there’s anything else specific to the wagon. Whatever I find will be included with the car. If I find something later, ou’re welcome to have it for the cost of shipping, f you want it. So, reluctantly offer the second last car I’ve hung on to. I had planned to do a lot of the interior in real wood and I still believe it would look stunning if you did. Sadly, t won’t be my car anymore so you’re welcome do it anyway you like. Except maybe not chopping it into some kind of hot rod. It’s probably too rare to do that to it. I’ll include a service manual and a digital copy of the parts manual and whatever advice you might need along the way, f you want it If you want to speak to me just ask and I’ll give you my phone number.
