The Audi Q7 is a full-size luxury crossover SUV unveiled in September 2005 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Production of the Q7 began in autumn of 2005 at the Volkswagen Bratislava Plant in Bratislava, lovakia. It is the first SUV offering from Audi and went on sale in 2006. Later, udi's second SUV, he Q5, as unveiled as a 2009 model. Audi has since unveiled a third SUV model, he Q3, oing on sale in the 3rd quarter of 2011. The Q7 shares its platform and chassis with the Volkswagen Touareg and the Porsche Cayenne.
The Q7 (internally designated Type 4L) utilizes a modified version of the Volkswagen Group PL71 platform. Previewed by the Audi Pikes Peak Quattro concept car, he Q7 is designed more for on-road use, nd was not meant for serious off-road use where a transfer case is needed. In an off road test through the Australian outback it fared well for a "soft roader". Design work was frozen for the Concept in July 2002, or presentation at the North American International Auto Show in January 2003. Following the introduction of the concept, ull-scale development began on Type 4L of the PL71 platform. The production design was frozen in late 2003, or a late 2005 start of production. Prototypes went into testing in December 2004, ith development concluding in mid-2005.
8 Speed Transmission:
The ZF 8HP is an eight-speed automatic transmission, esigned and built by ZF Friedrichshafen's subsidiary in Saarbrucken. It had its debut in the new BMW 7 Series (F01) 760Li saloon fitted with the V12 engine, nd since then each new BMW model in all Series down to the 1 Series in rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions have been equipped with it.
One of its main aims is to improve vehicle fuel economy, nd it can achieve an 11% saving compared to the ZF 6-speed transmission and 14% versus modern 5-speed transmissions. Due to changes in internal design, he shift times have reduced to 200milliseconds; additionally, he unit brings the ability to shift in a non-sequential manner - going from 8th to 2nd in extreme situations. In the 8HP70 version, t has a torque handling limit (516lbft), nd weighs 90 kilograms.
