I am the 3rd owner of the car. My coworker bought the car in Alabama rust free 15 years ago in hopes of fully restoring. He got as far as taking the car completely apart down to the last bolt. Life caused the project to be set aside. The car sat in his garage ever since. He finally decided to sell it so being a mechanic I took the project because there is no body work to be done. I cannot verify if odometer reading is correct. I estimate 5 miles since rebuild. Very clean and rust free car. See pictures.
1978 Camaro Type LT with #s matching 305 engine and TH350 transmission. Power Steering, oor locks, nd windows. Power assist brake booster, front disc brakes and rear drums. Brakes are currently weak. The detent pin used for bleeding the brake system is seized. The brake combination valve will need to be replaced prior to driving.
Original motor was completely disassembled and inspected. Replaced all lifters and camshaft due to visible wear. Installed a mild lift Comp Cam camshaft. Reassembled motor with new gasket kit. Installed Edelbrock performance intake manifold and 600 CFM carburetor. Long tube headers installed.
Original TH350 transmission was rebuilt by my coworker who is a past GM mechanic. The torque converter was replaced but might have a cut seal during installation. When driving, he transmission hesitates shifting up to 2nd possibly due to loss of fluid from converter. There are drips of pink transmission fluid on the bell housing cover after driving. All gear selections work otherwise.
The car was painted around 10 years ago and is in excellent condition. There is no fading being it was never driven and stored inside. The chrome trim is in very good condition. Most of it is new replacements. All weather seals are new except for the upper driver drip rail and lower passenger door seals are missing. I have the Camaro fender emblems I can include in the car. Set up with dual exhaust with chrome turn down tips.
Interior is in good condition. New carpet and headliner. The seats could use new reproduction covers. For now they have new cloth pull over covers. Gauges work except for tachometer. A single wire that is suppose to run through the firewall to the distributor was missing therefore was not connected. Dome light, ower windows, nd Power locks work. Heater blower works. A/C components are not installed but can be included.
There are small odds and ends that you may want to replace if you want a perfect car. I may have not mentioned every imperfection. This is a great condition driver muscle car. I am selling because it was just a fall/winter project. It would be great for someone who wants the car for there self. It would not take much to be completely finished and show quality.
