Virtually everyone knows Plymouth as one of Detroit's legendary muscle car divisions. And while it eventually spawned some of America's premier stoplight warriors, he brand itself started as Chrysler's entry level marque to rival Ford and Chevrolet in both sales and popularity. That means many of the storied muscle cars enthusiasts know and love began life like this stylish 1964 Sport Fury. This all-American cruiser HAS to be one of the coolest Plymouths on the planet! And if you're a dedicated MoPar collector who's itching for some early American Muscle that'll be the star of every cruise night in town, t's your hot ticket!
BODYWORK/TRIM
The beneficiary of an 18-month nut-and-bolt restoration, his clean B-Body currently mixes a correct, 83 cubic inch V8 with timeless good looks. Even though the car originally left Newark in PP1 Ruby paint, e can't help but think its current coat of bright White 2-stage is much more stunning. Fit and finish is better than anything that rolled off the factory's now antique assembly lines. And, hanks to 1,262 hours of carefully planned labor, ou can rest assured that those stunning aesthetics are built to last!
In the early '60s, lymouth designers, orking directly with the brand's sales team, ere being instructed to make their cars look as wide as possible. At the front of this sedan, bold, PLYMOUTH" branded grille floats quad headlamps above a thick, raparound bumper. Behind that grille, Plymouth 'gun sight' hood ornament leads like-new glass that's framed in original stainless trim. Below that glass, riginal aluminum trim splits the difference between chrome mirrors, hrome door handles and conservative "SPORT FURY" scripts. And at the back of the car, polished valance founds clear taillights between a flashy deck emblem, riginal trunk trim and a second wraparound bumper.
ENGINE
Pop the hood and you'll find a potent, 83 cubic inch V8 that's restored, efinished and ready to roll! The block, hich wears a correct 2468130 casting number, s layered in era-correct Turquoise that contrasts nicely against its white backdrop. Under the flat black air cleaner, correct Carter 4-barrel delivers fuel and oxygen to a cast iron intake. That atomized energy travels to 516 heads that feature hydraulic lifters and hardened valve seats. Spark is sequenced by a MoPar electronic ignition system that was added for the ease of modern convenience. Speed Pro pistons, e-conditioned rods and a Howard cam, hich hover between a .010 crankshaft turndown and .040 overbore, erpetuate combustion. And spent gases leave correct exhaust manifolds on their way to dual, .5-inch tail pipes.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
Under the car you'll find rock-solid floors that serve as the perfect backdrop for a fully restored suspension. At the front of that suspension, powder-coated K-frame hangs fresh Monroe shocks at the edges of old school manual steering. Opposite that rack, e-arched leaf springs ride under a fresh fuel tank that's fitted with a 5/16-inch sending unit. Behind the motor, correct A833 4-speed treats gear selection with authority. From there, ower travels to an 8.75-inch axle that's equipped with clutch-type posi-traction and 3.55 gears. Stops come courtesy of four massive drums. And in front of those drums, 4-inch steelies turn 215/70 Michelin all-season whitewalls around correct spinner hubcaps.
INTERIOR
This Plymouth originally left the factory with a Red interior that perfectly complemented its Ruby paint. But today, hanks to extensive help from Legendary Interiors, t sports miles of blue vinyl that serve as an excellent contrast to its fresh 2-stage. Swing the doors and you'll be greeted by firm vinyl buckets and a stylish console that's centered on a reliable Hurst shifter. Below that console, olor-keyed floor mats protect stain-free carpet. At the front of that carpet, reconditioned, riginal dash has been painted to match the new bits. At the sides of that dash, ick-free door panels back impressive stainless trim. And in front of the driver, restored steering wheel twists a full horn ring around a patriotic Plymouth logo.
