WILL NEED A REPAINT AND SOME EXTRA DETAILS TO BECOME A SHOW PIECE BUT AS CAN BE SEEN FROM RE-BUFFING OF THE ORIGINAL FACTORY PAINT. IT JUST REQUIRES VERY LITTLE PREP TO LOOK PERFECT FOR SHOWS. VERY FEW LEFT WITH SUCH LOW MILES - A TRUE GARAGE FIND OF AN UNMOLESTED ORIGINAL MICROCAR ENGINE WAS RECENTLY REFURBISHED AND SERVICED AND STILL RUNS AND DRIVES GOOD WITH 4 SPEED ON THE COLUMN TRANSMISSION AND FRONT WHEEL DRIVE PANHARD WAS OVERTAKEN BY CITROEN COMPANY BEFORE IT FOLDED IN THE 60'S THEREFORE THE NAME PANHARD-LEVASSOR-CITROEN DESIGNATION -- PANHARD WAS FOUNDED IN 1891 ALMOST AS OLD AS THE FIRST MERCEDES BENZ --- GREAT HISTORY AND THIS MODEL WON SEVERAL RALLIES AND THE 1ST PLACE IN 1961 MONTE CARLO --- In 1961. three of these cars took the top three places overall in the Monte Carlo Rally. And PL17’s regularly took home honors in fuel economy trials. In 1955 Paul Panhard negotiated a deal through which Citroen purchased 25 percent of Panhard. Under this arrangement Panhard would assemble 2CV trucks. and the Dyna would be sold by Citroen dealers. Panhard continued as a maker of military vehicles. and the company survives today as part of the Panhard & Auverland Corporation. which has a web presence at www. panhard. frPanhard’s history in the U. S. was brief. with the cars imported in small numbers from the mid 1950s until about 1962 through a variety of channels. including Citroen. But Panhards always were and still are very rare in the United States. and the Panhard club seeks to bring Panhard owners and enthusiasts together to keep these cars on the road. AS MENTIONED ABOVE THIS PARTICULAR CAR IS A SURVIVOR DUE TO THE DEALER WANTING TO KEEP THE CAR AFTER HE FAILED TO FULLY OPEN THE DEALERSHIP (ACCORDING WITH THE PREVIOUS OWNER THAT BOUGHT THE CAR FROM THE WIDOW) THE PRESENT CONDITION OF THE CAR PUTS IT IN A VERY PRIVILEGED CONDITION TO BECOME ONE OF THE LOWEST MILEAGE PANHARD IN THE USA AND MAYBE THE WORLDANY COLLECTOR WILL AGREE THAT THE OVERALL BODY AND FRAME CONDITION OF THIS CAR ARE EXCEPTIONAL AND NEARLY PRISTINE TO BECOME A SHOW PIECE WITH GREAT INVESTMENT POTENTIAL IN THE FUTUREI HAVE TAKEN THE CAR FROM ITS STORAGE AND HAVE DONE SOME REFURBISHING TO A DAILY DRIVING CONDITION AS FOLOWS:------BODY AND FRAME WERE CLEANED AND POLISHED THE ORIGINAL FACTORY PAINT WHICH GAVE A GREAT LUSTER AND DECENT DRIVER LOOK TO THE CAR --- SOME SURFACE PATINA ON THE ENGINE HOOD AND TRUNK WERE SANDED TO 5000 GRIT AND RUST PROTECTED AFTER WHICH THE ENTIRE CAR WAS COLOR SANDED TO THE GREAT LUSTER IT SHOWS NOW. ----- STILL CAR HAS MANY DEEPER SCRATCHES PROBABLY DOG OR CAT'S ---- ONLY A COUPLE OF SMALL DIMPLES CAN BE FOUND ANYWHERE IN THE BODY. -----ENGINE WAS PREPARED FOR RE-STARTING THROUGH CAREFUL PRE-LUBRICATION BEFORE STARTING AFTER SO MANY YEARS PARKED. ---- DE-SLUDGING AND GOOD LUBRICATION AND REBUILDING OF FUEL PUMP AND CARBURETOR BROUGHT THE ENGINE TO GOOD RUNNING WELL TUNED CONDITION ---- ENGINE STARTS AND STOPS WITH THE IGNITION KEY SWITCH AND THE WHOLE PANEL WAS REWIRED TO REPLACE BROKEN ONES ----- I WOULD RECOMMEND A NEW FUEL PUMP TO REPLACE THIS REFURBISHED OLD ONE. ----ALSO SERVICED WERE THE BRAKES WITH SOME NEW METAL TUBING. FLEXIBLE HOSES AND REFURBISHED MASTER CYLINDER --- BRAKES ARE GOOD TO GO ANYWHERE. ----I HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR LOCALLY AND IT DRIVES NICE LIKE A GOOD FRONT WHEEL DRIVE EUROPEAN RALLY CAR. MUST BE GREAT FOR SNOW --- FRAME IS VERY STURDY MADE FROM SIX INCH TUBING AND DOES NOT FLEX AT ALL. ----ALL GLASS IS GOOD ----- WINDOWS CRANK UP AND DOWN AND VENTS OPEN AND LOCK ---- I HAVE MADE ONE KEY THAT FITS ALL LOCKS INCLUDING GAS FILLER PORT ----- THE ORIGINAL RUBBER MATS FROM FACTORY ARE IN GOOD SHAPE AND GOOD TO USE ---- I HAVE ADDED NEW UNDER MAT INSULATION WITH FOAM/ALUMINUM MATERIAL --- SEE PHOTOS --- FLOORS ARE STILL 99% PERFECT WITH FACTORY PAINT AS PER PHOTOS-----THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PANEL WAS REMOVED AND REPAINTED AND ALL GLOVE BOXES (3) WERE REMOVED. REPAINTED AND A NEW VINYL LINER INSTALLED ----- ALL WIRING TO THE INSTRUMENTS WERE RE-DONE AND GAUGES ARE OPERATING GOOD -- SPEEDO ALSO WORKS AS WELL AS A RARE. FOR THIS TYPE OF CAR.
