Description

An all original'Michel Fournet 1965/1985'Citroen 2CV6 Charlestonwith a genuine 20,762 km / 12,900 miles from new.

Michel Fournet was a specialist who would take brand new 2CVs fresh from the Citroen factory and move the entire car onto an early, refurbishedchassis such that for purposes of being importedinto the US the vehicle registration would take the VIN number and date of manufacture of the chassis, which was old enough to be exempt from then current importation restrictions on new vehicles. In this way what you got was a brand new car on an early chassis that could be legally registered as an early (exempt) vehicle. One other specialist company, Escargot Motors, was also well known in Citroen circles for offering a similar service. As an added bonus, the earlier chassis were far stronger than Citroen's later ones, so you truly got the best of both worlds with this approach... abrand new car but on the much stronger earlier chassis. Ipersonally owned three previous 2CVs overseas, all later models (a Beachcomber and two Charlestons) and although all were wonderful cars, the chassis on each gave out long before the rest of the vehicle ever would have done. Not so with the Fournet early/late (and presumably also the Escargot Motors) vehicles.

I have owned this car since 1998 and amvery sad indeedto be selling it butI am moving overseas andunfortunately(and I suppose ironically) the car would besubject not only to shipping costs but also to hefty import duties and expensive required modifications in the country I am moving to if I took it with me.

The one previous owner was a Citroen enthusiast and also babied the car. I sincerely doubt that there are many, if any, other low mileage original 2CVs like this to be found anywherein the US.

** Clarification - some people have asked when the car was restored or how extensive the restoration was... this car is original not restored. Technically, the processing of putting these brand new cars ontorefurbished pre-1968 chassis to allow them to be imported to the US as restored pre-1968 vehicles (& thus exempt from regulations that would otherwise have governed their import) so technically you could refer to this as a restored car. However, beyond putting it on the 1965 chassis when it was brand new, this 2CV is all original not a restoration.
