I am listing my 1986 Ferrari Mondial 3.2 Cabriolet as I have run out of garage space. This Mondial 3.2 Cabriolet is 1 of 810 totally built and with only 449 for US/Canada. I have owned this car since December 2014. The car did not come with a service history so I immediately took it to my mechanic and had him do a full service on the engine at which time the odometer read 46,417. The following items were done at that time:
1. A complete diagnostic test
2. Timing belts replaced
3. A/C belt replaced
4. Alternator belt replaced
5. Water pump belt replaced
6. Replaced tensioner bearings with Hill Engineering bearings
7. Water pump replaced
8. Spark plugs replaced
9. Fuel filter replaced
10. Oil change with Mobil 1
11. Flushed A/C system
12. Complete charge of the A/C system
Somewhere from the time I picked up the car and got it home I got a nail in one of the front tires and in of all places the side wall, o I purchased two new front tires. The rear tires are in great shape.
The Carfax I got for the car indicated there had been service performed at two dealers in the Chicago area so I called and talked to the service managers of these dealers and was able to obtain some additional information regarding service. They could not email me the records because of privacy issues they said. Some of the work performed was:
1. In 2000 a leak compression test performed in 2000, ork performed by Lake Forest Sportscars.
2. In 2005 the antifreeze/coolant was flushed and changed; fuel system checked; transmission serviced; oil and filter changed; battery replaced; fuel injectors 1 & 3 replaced; brakes replaced; and new wiper blades, ork done by Continental Autosports.
3. In 2010 the car was serviced again by Continental Autosports
4. In 2010 the axle boots were replaced; new tires and balance; shift linkage serviced, his work was again done by Continental Autosports.
5. In 2011 Continental Autosports serviced the car again, o details.
6. In 2011 Continental Autosports serviced the fuel injection system; and replaced accelerator cable.
During the summer of 2015 I completely removed the interior and stripped the old dye from all the tan leather in the car. This was a 7 week process. I then had a professional restoration company re-dye all the tan in the car. The tan color is a match to the original factory color and to the new leather boot cover I had made by Rich&Famous Auto Tops of Van Nuys, A. The original boot cover that came with the car was black canvas and I felt the car was a show stopper with the tan cover. It was during this process of removing the interior seats that I found mounting holes which were obviously for a roll bar, o at some point in time one of the previous owners actually had the car on the track and got to really enjoy the Ferrari experience, lucky guy and/or gal).
I had the car into my mechanic again this month (Feb) due it running rough and had the following work performed, ileage 47154:
1. Installed a Low Voltage Relay Kit on the starter
2. Changed the trans fluid with Red Line 75w90
3. Removed and replaced the upper intake and VAC hoses
4. Removed and replaced the upper intake gaskets and spacers
The car comes with a custom fit interior car cover.
The car has the owner’s manual, nd car jack, ut does not have the original tool kit.
The following items which need to be addressed are:
1. The driver’s side mirror does not work, this did not bother me as I could adjust it by hand). I am not sure if it is the switch or the mirror.
2. The cigarette lighter is missing, for some reason every Mondial I look at it is missing, here has to be a pile of them somewhere).
3. The driver side rear quarter window is slow to go up and needs help the last inch or two.
4. The other windows go up and down with no problem.
5. The electric radio antenna switch does not work; the antenna goes up and down when you turn on the radio. I turned the radio on when I got the car to see if it worked ; it did and haven’t turned it on since. The speakers seemed to be pretty rough to me.
6. When I got the car the A/C lines to the compressor were not hooked up, hey were tied off to the car, s noted above the system was serviced and charged, owever it doesn’t work most of the time. A/C is nice in AZ, ut the top down is more fun.
I installed in the bottom of each of the door bottoms a Ferrari Logo Halo lighting system which everyone enjoys seeing at night, see picture)
I replaced the center console fiber optic lighting system with and LED lighting system.
When I restored the interior this past summer I also installed a new wedge kit on the center air grill so that it directs the air horizontally and not down at your feet.
The exterior of the car is in what I would call a condition #2 per Hagerty, here are some stone chips in the front and some parking lot bruises on the rear bumper and some chips around the engine bay lid. This past November and December the car was entered into two of Tucson largest car show, 00+ cars at each, nd I am happy to say this 3.2 won First Place in its class at both, really big deal considering the cars in the class.
I have to note a PO removed the catalytic converter and install a straight pipe, o the car would have to have a cat installed to meet CA standards and maybe other states as well; at least that is my guess. The sound of the car without the cat is awesome.
This is a great car and will make the next owner very happy. There is no warranty and no returns; car is being sold as is. I have tried to outline everything I think the new owner should be aware of, ut I may have missed something, o please ask questions before bidding. Owner to pay for shipping.
A $500.00 non-fundable deposit will be required at the end of the auction. The remaining bid amount must be cash and/or cashier check when the car is picked up, ersonnal check will not be accepted.
