1978 Ferrari 308 GTB Carb Car, US California model, Wet Sump, For Restoration
Chassis Number 25653 Engine Type F106 AE Engine Number 006 02 Body Number 573
Totally dismantled 308 GTB Carb car, I am told that it has been off the road and in storage for over 20 years here in Northern California, it has a small California Pink slip from 1983 and also the metal chassis plate and body data plates originally fitted to the car. I understand that the intention of the owner was to 'hot-rod' the car with some sort of big motor when the California smog laws rolled past 1978 and the Ferrari was stripped forrestorationwith this in mind. Of course the Smog Laws stopped rolling back at production year 1976 requiring all later cars to conform to CA Smog laws, this is the reason the car was left unfinished. The owner further decided to fit different seats and wheels and so disposed of the standard items, as you can see I have found two front wheels but no rears and no seats.
Shell
The shell is simply superb, I have included a link to many pictures detailing the condition, I can find no rust or damage repairs to any part of the car other than the engine lid which has had some work started to the frame and trailing edge. The body number '753' appears on the coil mounting bracket in the engine compartment and also on the side frame of the front hood showing its originality. I have posted pictures using a digital meter designed to show paint depth and in fact what is below the paint, it reads between one micron and two point five and shows in the display 'FE' for "ferous' when metal is below the paint, any bondo below the finish would show up as either an extremely high number or morelikely a reading of 'IINFINI" indicating 'Infinity' (this for anything thicker than a playing card) Nowhere on the car can this be found (Original paint finishes on modern factory built cars are approximately 4.5-5 microns)

Underside & Frame
From underneath, the frame appears straight with no apparent damage, the tubes are solid and without obvious repair, there is no corrosion on any part of the underside, from the edges where the rockers attach to the radiator mounts, floor mounts, in fact everywhere I can find on corrosion, damage or evidence of previous repair, please study the pictures in the link below
Pictures Underside Chassis Rails 308 GTB 25653 Body Number 753
There are boxes of parts and its simply impossible to expect everything to be there, this car was stripped down to the shell, I have found that the dashboard panel itself is missing but some of the instruments are there but are in poor condition, all of the window surrounds are present including the windshield trims across the bottom and the surround which covers from side over the top to the other side, these are nice and straight and useable. The front screen was the original but it was cracked so I left it with the seller. The rear screen is a brand new unit in the wrapper with the ferrari number on it. I have all side glass, plus frames and surrounds, please study the pictures, you can get a better idea of what is there

308 GTB 25653
The motor again appears complete, it does turn over, it is also attached to the gearbox/transmission, I am told that the clutch has been replaced with a complete new cover, bearing and plate. The heads are off and have been fitted with new valves, there is a machine shop tag on one head so I assume valve guides have been machined and replaced. With prices of restored 308 GTB Carburetor cars now asking in excess of 100K this is an eminently restorable car, I have owned many 308s and this is one of the best shells I have comeacross, or if you prefer it offer it's a perfect basis for a track/ challenge car. I am happy for buyers to come and take a look, I have a two post lift/rack and will be happy to lift the shell up for you to inspect it.
As a licensed California dealer I am required to charge applicable taxes to California Residents, I can of course arrange shipping abroad using an international shipper, most parts are boxed and stored inside the car, I will mount the engine for shipping and there will most likely be a pallet containing the remainder. Car has two front wheels on old tires and a dolly for the rear.Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me on 925 789 9825
