This Bertone X1/9 I bought 14 years ago and it has been part of my 27 car collection. It sits alongside 2 Lamborghinis...a Countach and a Diablo, everal Lotus Esprits, riumphs, ther Fiats, organ 3-wheeler, everal microcars....Messerschmitts and Isettas, tc......all European classics and exotics. In fact I have 2 other X1/9's in the collection. I bought this car with ~120 miles on it and the 36 miles I have added came about from exercising the car thru my neighborhood from time to time over the years. I never purchased license plates....never registered it for the road.....the intention was only to display it and keep it in as new condition.
Everyone in the X1/9 world knows of the red car that sold for upwards of $35,000.00 at auction several years ago. They claimed it was the lowest mileage X1/9 on the planet......wrong.....that car was approaching 1000 miles if I remember correctly. This car has only 156 miles.....this is the lowest mileage X1/9 in existence.
I am hoping that this car never sees a street. I am hoping it goes to a collector like myself that will display and maintain it as I have all these 14 years. I have not started it now in 4 years and I will be buying a new battery, he fuel system may need to be cleaned....there is some old gas in it now. I welcome any prepurchase inspection. Understand I will not allow this car out on the street. I do not have it registered to drive.
I will need an immediate Paypal deposit of $1000.00 at auction end and the balance wiretransferred to me within 7 days of auction end.
No overseas buyers please as I do not have time to deal with transport companies. It will be sold within the U.S. only.
Okay, will add more of the story now. This car and a sister 1987 Red and black car......2 tone as this one were in the estate of an ex-FIAT dealer in the late 90's. From what I understand his collection was exclusive Italian. The red/black car had 55 miles when he died......this Blue/Silver car had 98 miles when he died. At one point my car went thru Barrett Jackson in Scottsdale and it ended up in Minnesota. I recall something about the guy I acquired it from having found it at a Porsche dealership in Minneapolis. The fellow in Minnesota did not want to drive it since it was a new car.....he felt as I.....figured it deserved to be in someone's collection. I bought it from him with 120 miles. I am uploading a license plate that was on the car when I bought it. I never bought plates for it. Also I am uploading a picture of the title.
Several years ago I did a Barrett Jackson history search online and I found the car still there.....you may want to see that for yourself.
These cars were shipped to the dealerships without radios. This car still has the blank plate that it came from the factory with !!!!!! No one ever even touched that !!!!!!
Someone is questioning the color combo. Both the red/black car and the blue/silver car had the same paintwork/trim. I saw pictures of both cars side by side. The red car surfaced some years later for sale with several thousand miles. That was around 2005 or 2006.
The car sat in my marital house while I was going thru a divorce. Upon picking it up 2 years into a brutal divorce the car had been moved to a different spot in the garage and I notice a couple of scuffs on the ridge of the door. I think it will just polish off. There is one very insignificant nick on the nose area. That was there when I bought it. Other than that i don't think there is anything else. I will upload photos of that. The tires are the originals. Both the red and the blue car had the same wheels. Someone questioned that as well. I am leaving for my Florida house in the morning.....moving my entire collection down there one or 2 cars at a time. This trip I am taking my 1986 X1/9. I will upload a pic of me loading it in my trailer earlier today.
If the car does not sell on eBay off to Bonhams it goes....maybe Amelia Island next year. My long time friend works for and wants it at Bonhams.
I welcome a phone call if I can answer any questions. Please do not waste my time if you are looking for a $5000 X1/9 . This car is not for you. Please understand that and do not waste my time. We are not talking $5000 here so I also welcome inspections. I will be back to Chicago Friday evening....road trip to Florida and back starts tomorrow morning. Joe 847-533-2700
