Mustangs have been the most popular pony car. both in terms of sales and in terms of customization. and this 1999 35th Anniversary Mustang GT convertible offers a host of tasteful upgrades to go with its limited edition status. It's rare to find a modified Mustang that's also this tastefully done. and it has an awesome look to go with its impressive performance. That's factory paint and while Ford didn't make a big deal about the Mustang's 35th birthday. there are a few touches that make this one special. First of all. it's a real 35th Anniversary car. of which only 2310 were convertibles and only 1299 were black. making this a rare machine indeed. All Mustangs had some kind of badging. but this one is the real deal. It also received special rocker moldings. a honeycomb pattern insert on the tail panel akin to those on the 1970s Mach 1s. as well as the requisite badging and emblems. The factory paint is in great shape for being more than 15 years old and the car has absolutely led an easy life with just 69. 67 original miles. Visually. the car keeps a low profile. with no outrageous graphics or spoilers. just a factory wing on the trunk lid and a hood scoop that was part of the Anniversary package. They did add a small decal on the trunk lid signifying the car's relative rarity. and the parking lights are clear instead of amber. giving this black pony a sinister look. The interior got some upgrades as part of the Anniversary package. too. including silver leather inserts on the seats. silver inserts on the door panels. and embroidery on the seat backs. Other tasteful modifications include a white gauge panel. billet knobs dash controls. drilled aluminum pedals. and a custom shifter for the 5-speed manual gearbox. Anniversary models came with just about everything as standard equipment. so you also have power locks. A/C. cruise control. a heated glass rear window in the power convertible top. and a reasonably powerful AM/FM/CD stereo. It's all in very good condition. given its easy life as an instant collectable. and aside from some very minor comfort marks on the driver's seat. there's no appreciable wear anywhere inside. The power top folds easily and hides under a snug-fitting boot that gives the Mustang a clean profile. The trunk is neatly finished and looks almost brand new. Ford's 4. 6 liter V8 offered great performance and a familiar exhaust note for those of us who grew up with the 5. 0. It's also smooth. reliable. torquey. and just about the ideal pony car engine. A few chrome and stainless dress-up pieces make the engine bay look flashy. including a strut tower brace. a polished alternator. custom stainless coolant tube. and a cold air intake with cool blue silicone joints. It starts easily and thanks to long-tube headers and a custom 2. 5-inch exhaust system with cats and an X-pipe. has an awesome soundtrack that you'll enjoy running through the gears. The suspension has been lowered. there are upgraded disc brakes at all four corners. and subframe connectors reinforce the convertible's tub for a solid feeling that's definitely noticeable. Custom 18-inch Raceline wheels offer charcoal gray centers. spinners. and deep polished rims and carry big 285/35/18 performance radials all around.
