PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION BELOW BEFORE BIDDING!! THIS IS NOT A ROAD READY CAR. This is being sold as a parts car or even a project. The car is not road ready and will need maintenance before you could drive it safely on the road. Please scroll down and read the entire description before bidding. This is a Ford Escort ZX2 that my father bought for my daughter as her first car. However. after evaluating the car I will not put any more money into it. I am hoping someone can use it for parts (Engine. transmission. etc). otherwise it will go to scrap for the $0. 07 per lb they offer. I will describe the car as accurately as possible based on our inspection and road tests. The car does start. run. shift and drive. but it will need many things before it is roadworthy. It is a base model ZX2 with manual windows and no power accessories. Interested parties are urged to inspect and drive the car (a short distance) before bidding. Payment will be made in the form of Cash. bank check or money order. I would strongly recommend a trailer or flat bed truck for pick up. The car does drive. but since we removed/reinstalled the drive axle nut. it will need to be replaced with a new nut to be safe. The Good – The Engine starts immediately and idles fine. the transmission shifts smoothly and the car drives better than I expected. We drove the car about 50 miles after it arrived here in PA and I even took it on the interstate and ran it at 60-65 for 5 miles. The car does not shimmy. pull or drive abnormally. It has 4 new tires 185/65-14. installed 3/30/15. The rears have about 800 miles on them due to the car being towed on a tow dolly from St Louis to PA. The Bad (please read through the entire list before bidding) – Engine – There is at least one oil leak that leaves a spot on my driveway. The valve cover shows signs of leaking. The service engine soon light came on after the short drive on the interstate. The engine code was P0171. which is lean bank. perhaps an O2 sensor Transmission – The transmission has a leaking pan gasket. There is a broken bolt on the transmission pan where someone recently attempted to drop the pan. I was going to drill out the bolt. tap and replace. but decided to move on. Exhaust – The exhaust appears to have been replaced within the past couple years. The catalytic converter is in good condition. We saw no leaks. holes or cracks. I did remove the center tunnel heat shield to access the parking brake cable. but it is intact and in the trunk with mounting hardware. I left it out in the even the buyer decided to replace the parking brake cable Brakes – The car will need brake pads and shoe on all 4 wheels. There is material left. but they are about 75% worn. The parking brake cable was not connected and after inspection we discovered the left and right cables were stiff. We removed to inspect and replace. and the old parts are in the trunk. Suspension – It will need both lower ball joints (left and right). The boots are torn. but the suspension does not knock or otherwise show signs of wear. I think the tie rods were replaced recently. The driver’s side strut was recently replaced as well. Driveline – The driver’s side hub and bearing will need to be replaced. The car arrived missing one driver’s side lug nut. we found the stud broken. We removed the hub to replace the stud. but after discovering all the problems. reassembled the original parts. It will also need the seal and drive axle nut since we reinstalled the original nut. Instrumentation – The instrument cluster was replaced. so the odometer is not accurate. We were told the instrument cluster was replaced with a used model at 140k. The current odometer reads 120k. but we estimate the mileage to be around 180k. The speedometer is intermittently erratic. This started after I washed the car and engine bay. It could be moisture in the speed sensor connector on the transmission. All other gauges appear to be normal. Interior – The seats are decent with a small tear on the driver’s side bolster. The driver’s seat is missing a plastic handle on a seat adjuster. The driver’s seat fabric is loose on the foam in areas. All seat fabric has some discoloration or light stains. The carpet has some stains. The headliner fabric is gone with only the foam remaining. The car has an aftermarket (Kenwood) stereo that is loose in the dash. WE have removed two pieces of interior trim (center console and 3rd brake light cover) for maintenance. but the panels and hardware are intact. Exterior – The car shows signs of being in an accident. The driver’s fender is slightly different and the nose fairing shows signs of repair. As such the panels on the front do not line up at various points. The car has multiple small dents. dings or scratches. The paint is faded. splotchy with clear coat missing in various areas. The door window trim/seals pieces are falling off (the passenger side can be removed easily. the driver’s side is held in by one clip). Glass – The windshield has a crack on the driver’s side. at the bottom of the windshield. The crack is about 18 inches long but is not in the driver’s field of view. The remaining glass appears to be normal for the car’s age. Rust – The passenger side rocker panel below the door sill is rusted. The outer skin can be peeled away (I stopped after peeling a 12 inch section off by hand). The rust continues throughout the lower rocker panels. The driver’s side rocker is also rusted with a small hole. The rust does not appear to affect the inner panels and there are no holes into the cabin area. The sub frame has some rust. but the rust does not appear to be affecting the structure of the car (suspension points. etc). Title – The car is still titled in Illinois. The title was signed over to me. but I will not pay the additional money to transfer the title or register here in PA. I have a notarized bill of sale. All indications suggest the title is clear. but it was in an accident. I did not run a carfax on the title. so if it comes back as other than clear. I apologize. No Warranty is offered or implied. Please take the time to inspect the car or even ask additional questions before you bid.
