Old Mooneyes Push TruckThe time has come to pass it along and I am seeking a caretaker for this one of a kind gem and piece of history. This is a rare once in a lifetime opportunity. I originally purchased this Truck which had belonged to a dear friend and San Fransisco Drag racer and Avid Hot rod Collector who has Owned it for the last several decades. Before his departure. I had been helping him on his other hot rods. It has been sitting in storage under cover where we were working on it. It was used for push starting vehicles for races. He worked as a Mechanic with his own repair shop. And Street raced in South San Fransisco as well as working on Sears point. Half moon bay drag strip and el mirage. He acquired this truck at a very young age with the help of his father in Southern California. The door signage is all handpainted and shows it character. The yellow paint has is flaws but only adds to its character. Drivers side has the original world famous moon eyes logo and name on the Moon Equipment Co. and shop address of santa fe springs. alifornia. As well the old phone number for the shop. The Passenger side has the original earlier Logo and name as Moon Automotive of Norwalk. alifornia . This was used from the early to late 50's. On the gas tank the Rusetta Timing Association logo remains. Dean Moon and many other rodders were part of the Rusetta timing association. hich was the rival to the SCTA. It ran from 1948-1961. The Rusetta Timing Association was a dry lakes sanctioning body that was formed because closed cars were not recognized by the Southern California Timing Association. The Moon bros were well known for their pioneering and excessories such as the early multi carb fuel block. pun aluminum wheel covers. pressurized aluminum gas tanks and foot shaped gas pedals. The Moon brothers built many hotrods for customers and got their beginning behind the Moon Cafe in Norwalk. alifornia. During this time Dean was a member of the Hutters car club of Whittier California. And latter became the secretary of the Rusetta Timing Association. Towards the end of WWII He toured the pacific with the merchant marines. He worked as a machinist at Ulrich and Gibbs Lincoln and Mercury in Whittier. And was drafted in the airforce where he taught Photography during the Korean War. A lease dispute forced him from the Moon Cafe. with the move he renamed his business Moon Equipment. Which has resided at the same address in Santa Fe Springs since the late 50's. In 1957 a cartoonist from Disney made the now famous mooneyes logo based off of how Dean wrote his last name. Dean and Buzz Moon raced and built many hotrods. And Dean Sponsered and built dragsters in Southern California and a victory in england. As well as his work with Carol Shelby and as an important part in founding SEMA. The truck Has a Good engine. which has been pulled and inspected. Bottom end cleaned. alve chamber cleaned. Steering box and distributor have been professionally rebuilt with zero miles. Transmission is very good. Rear end is good. It has a factory front end and mechanical brakes on it.
