This 1931 Ford Model A Phaeton can be considered a rat rod or a resto rod or a traditional hot rod depending on your perception. They considered it a work in progress towards their own personal taste. This car started life as a 1931 2 door sedan but had been stored on it's roof and the top was really bad. They figured it to be a perfect candidate for a conversion to a phaeton. The body was rough but worth saving. As usual on these old cars the lower 4-6 inches needs replaced and minor body work the rest. The body has been channeled 4 inches so after the stock sub frame was removed a new frame consisting of a spider style was built from 1x2 & 1x1 square tubing. 10 mounting points frame connect it through rubber bushings. The tunnel is built from 18 gauge steel. Floors are 3/4 plywood. Custom rear seat front modified dodge caravan midseat. At the top of the body the area formerly rolling up to the roof were removed & rebuilt to a phaeton. Afterwards this area was added a patina to make it blend with the rest of the body red & black primer no mud applied. The windshield pivots at the top for low speed breeze. The cowl mounted gas tank has not been altered. In the back of the car the rear panel between the quarters is compromised of two panels to make one. This is the worst part of the body they planned to replace it later but didn't get to. The frame is built close to the stock frame layout except stretched 9 inches to accommodate the engine. The material used is 2x4 180 wall which tapers in the front as stock and uses the stock frame horns and a speedway front spring hanger. The center k member is 2x2 125 wall the rear kicked up 10 inches. The rear push bar mount was purpose built to also accept common trailer adjustable for ride height up & down a total of 5 inches. The front axle is a super bell 4 inch drop and super low posies spring. The spindles, pring perch steering arms, nd tie rods, raglink, ingpins all were bought new from speedway. The front rods are 1936 Ford with the front hanger removed. The front brakes are 1948 F-1 Ford as is the steering box and steering column and steering wheel. All new shoes, heel cylinders, oses, nd tandem master cylinder. The rear axle is 9 inch Ford 1966 F-1 with 3.00 gears and again all new bakes. The rear radius rods are the coveted 1936. Custom rear spring.Again new Pete and Jake shocks. The drive shaft is custom built balanced with new u joints. The engine is a 1975 Caddy 500 cubic inch stock. The engine is disguised with custom value covers with push in breathers. Custom lake style headers by Steve's Morpower muffler and complete exhaust out the back utilizing aluminized exhaust pipes and mufflers with chrome tips. This car is very quiet, ut for the noisy sound, ust pull the caps off the headers for attention. A 12 volt generator is mounted center to further disguise the engine. 750 carter AFB carburetor topped with aluminum scoop. The distributor is points style converted to electronic via Pertronix with a Mallory cap and an Delco finned coil. The transmission is a TH 400 with a Lokar swan style shifter and 1936 Ford truck hand brake attached to it which works well. The fuel tank is an RCI aluminum 15 gallon with sending unit. Last fall they drove Route 66 from North Tulsa and back about 100 miles each way with no problems. It has even won trophies and always draws attention. He was 5'11 with a 31 inch inseam & comfortable driving the car. The seats adjust from this setting forward 3" and back 3" so it can move a total of 6".
