In mid-February 1968, he California Ford Dealers (Ford Dealer Advertising Fund) began to market a factory-built, imited-edition Mustang, alled the GT/CS, r "California Special". The hope was for a targeted production run of 5,000; however, nly 3.867 were made out of a total Mustang production of 317.404.Production ran for only 5.5 months from mid-February 1968 to early August 1968.
Shelby Automotive, was assigned the task of designing and engineering the necessary parts and assembly procedures for the GT/CS. This was done right alongside the development of their 1968 Shelby. The fiberglass parts were crafted at A.O. Smith, n Ionia, ichigan, n steel molds. A.O. Smith was also the same OEM manufacturer for the Corvette fiberglass bodies. The fiberglass parts for the GT/CS included: the rear decklid and end caps, aillight panel, nd side scoops (RH and LH).
A cheaper Shelby build mustang can never be bought!!!!!
The most prized versions are the big-block 390 which this particular car is and Cobra Jet 428 versions, f which only a handful were made. The GT/CS has become one of the most owner-appreciated classic Mustangs, ince it has both the qualities of a Shelby GT, nd a Mustang coupe. Its uniqueness, nd rarity draws great attention on the road and at the car shows.
This car is a number matching big-block 390, 8 model with the c6 automatic
transmission. It is rust-free and runs and drives fantastic.
The Mustang has been repainted about 15 years ago. The vehicle has good tires and is ready to be driven. It has the original 1968 black plates from Texas.
A good time to get a rare Mustang that will continue having a great value now and in the in coming years!
Happy bidding!
