I purchased this car from the previous president of the Nor Cal Galaxies, e had begun a restoration updating the suspension and it was used by his daughter and wife as a semi daily for a few years until one of them mashed the front clip. He collected all the parts and put the clip that's on there now. The car has rust in the roof due to the original vynal roof and that carried into the trunk but the floors and quarters seem solid and the car seems to be mostly original paint. The car at some point was swapped to an automatic but I have the 65 specific bell housing and pedals. I do not have the manual trans or clutch stuff as I was on the fence about going back 4 speed or upgrading to a tremac 5 speed now you get to pick. The car has some neat options, eing a 500xl it has the super comfy bucket seats and cowled rear bench center console. It also has the AM/FM radio and was somehow ordered with a Shelby style mirror.
What I've done, took the car to Tom at FE Specialties to bring her out of hibernation and help me build a list of what was missing to begin restoration. He did a compression test and went through the car front to back mechanically. Since then she's been a semi daily/back up car for the wife and I. I have also collected the 1 year only bell housing, edals and linkage to convert the car back to manual. I also purchased a parts car for all the metal I'd need to fix the rust issues. The car is a solid safe driver. I was told the 390 Fe is original to the car 4 bbl high performance version and she wants to run! The torque comes on early and never leaves. It's a real struggle to keep her below 85/90 on the free way. The suspension and anti roll bars where all beefed up by the previous owner and the car really handles great. It's the wife's favorite car so far but we've recently moved and have to downsize the collection.
I also have a parts car with fantastic body no interior or engine/trans. I really scored on this parts car another 2 door hardtop it's got a few extremely minor dents but has no rust and all the panels you could need to fix the 500XL or you could toss in a motor and interior and you've got a second cruiser. In the car when I purchased it was a complete set of 1965 500XL door panels with beautiful trim, worth a grand or better on its own) I also have a complete set of original front fender GALAXIE 500 XL front fender emblems one is cracked but repairable as well as lots of extra interior trim.
I am selling both cars as a package deal with all the stuff I have accumulated to complete the conversion back to manual.
I have described these cars to the best of my ability I am not an expert I have posted pictures to show their condition as clearly as possible please ask as many questions as possible to assure a happy sale.
