Description

This is a fine example of classic car restored and updated for regular use. It runs and drives wonderfully and can be driven anywhere. Owner since 2008. Car has been lovingly restored over that time. Odometer shows 80,223 miles.

The car was repainted in 2013 in the original Frost Turquoise color. The paint and body work was done professionally. The aluminum side trim, rille, nd headlight trim pieces were polished and repainted. The front and rear bumpers and tail light bezels were rechromed. The hood edge trim, oor handles, utside mirror, ntenna, ORD lettering, nd “500” trim pieces were all replaced with new.

Interior work included new interior paint, ick panels, arpet, eadliner, un visors, ew seat covers with correct NOS upholstery, ear package shelf, ulkhead panel between rear seat and trunk, nd sound deadening. I also replaced the window cranks, oor handles, urn signal lever, ear shift knob, ear indicator trim, rake pedal pad and trim, nd myriad other small pieces. The instrument cluster was disassembled, leaned, nd refurbished. The door panels were refinished and rear armrests replaced. The original AM radio remains, ut I added a modern AM/FM/HD/CD/MP3 stereo unit under the dash, ith 6x9 speakers in the package shelf and a pair of smaller speakers mounted in place of the original front speaker.

A 302 V8 from a 1998 Ford Explorer now sits in place of the original 200 c.i. straight six. The engine is original and was built in a Ford factory. It is smooth as silk and delivers great power and fuel economy. The engine retains the modern serpentine belt system and modern accessories. The fuel injection has been replaced with an Edelbrock Performer four-barrel carburetor combined with a low pressure electric fuel pump. There is a massive aluminum radiator with a custom fabricated shroud for maximum cooling. This car does not overheat or even get hot sitting in traffic during summer in Phoenix. A rebuilt, turdy C4 transmission was installed, long with a rebuilt 8 inch rear end with the correct 2.73 gear ratio. I used the car as a daily driver for a year after the engine swap, o the kinks have been ironed out.

The car also features a Vintage Air HVAC system. This system replaces the original heater system, o the old Ford heater core (and its potential for leaks) is long gone. All climate control is through the new, odern, fficient system with a new heater core and cold air with R-134A refrigerant.

Numerous enhancements were added to the chassis as well. The car has a Monte Carlo bar under the hood bracing the shock towers. There are sub-frame connectors under the floor, o the car’s body is much stiffer now than even when new. This improves handling and ride quality, s do the suspension enhancements. The entire front suspension was replaced with new, ncluding the springs, nd the sway bar replaced with a much larger unit. The rear leaf springs and shocks were also replaced. Front and rear brakes were also overhauled.

The original steel wheels were replaced with aluminum American Racing Torq-Thrust wheels and new tires in the correct original size. The light weight of the aluminum wheels further enhances ride and handling, s well as performance and fuel economy.

The body received new door gaskets, runk seal, nd window seals. This keeps the wind out, akes for a quieter ride, nd makes the car feel much newer and more solid. The trunk liner and side panels were also replaced, nd the trunk interior was repainted.


The car does have a few minor issues. The horn is not currently working and the turn signal cam is flaky such that the turn signal does not always self-cancel. Windshield washer does not spray, ut a new pump is included. The wipers themselves work fine.
