Please note that experience shows us that the photobucket of over 100 large pixel pictures posted here are in most cases best viewed and downloaded using the very latest and most updated version of the 'Firefox' browser as some other browsers and especially older browser versions are not capable of accommodating the size of the download. Over the years our clients have overwhelmingly been appreciative of our many unaltered large pixel photos posted in our ads and our feedback has been that it is very rare that a dealer will post all but the most flattering of professionally finished photographs. We prefer to post the many photos taken of the car. in sometimes unflattering but natural sunlight. in order for our prospective buyers to be able to see true and reliable images of the car advertised and that is the reason for some seemingly duplicated shots. We trust you will agree. West Coast Classics are proud to present an absolutely exceptional and great daily driving example of this original celebrity southern California owners 1988 Ford Mustang 'ASC McLaren' Limited Edition # 918 5. 0L 225HP V8 Convertible with an automatic transmission and with its original and very rare striking and desirable factory 'White' color exterior paint with a 'Gray' leather interior with matching carpet and color keyed dashboard and door panels and a black soft top and with only 51K original actual miles! The car will be sold with a clean CARFAX report and all its original owners manuals and with its original spare wheel and jack in the trunk. The car has no accident history and has obviously always been garaged by its original owner. the renown actor Robert Horton of 'Wagon Train' fame in Los Angeles. southern California. The car has beautiful original white color paint. a black soft top and a beautiful gray leather interior which is also almost as good as new! The cars factory options include power seats. power windows. power door locks. cruise control. air conditioning and it's original factory radio/cassette player. The car drives extremely well and has obviously always been garaged and well maintained and every option is working as it should. 1984 marked the first year of the well known Saleen Mustang but the beautiful Fox body had already prompted the legendary McLaren company. of racing car engineering and chassis building fame. to collaborate with the ASC company to create the 'ASC McLaren' Mustang which would become one of the best known of the Fox-bodied conversions ever built. In 1981 McLaren had teamed with Ford to make 11 Mustangs to showcase the new bodystyle and by 1983 the American Sunroof Company (ASC) were brought onboard to help convert the car into a two seater convertible with a canvas top that folded underneath a hard tonneau cover. which completely concealed the top and streamlined the car beautifully. which was a very distinct difference from the standard Mustang convertible. Meanwhile McLaren provided springs. shocks. struts and wheels and the car was further streamlined using a custom aero kit and spoiler. The first year of production in 1984 (with a retail price of over $21K in 1984 dollars compared to $18K for the top-of-the-line Mustang GT Convertible!) netted sales of 50 convertibles and 10 hatchbacks. In 1985 the car was further improved with a supersport suspension kit that offered stiffer springs that lowered the car to streamline it even further and revalved struts. The interior now boasted original 'Recaro' seats. a leather wrapped steering wheel and a 140mph speedometer. It also had a new front airdam. side body ground effects and a rear valance. By 1986 the car had the improved SEFI engine that replaced the earlier carburetor engine. By 1986 the car had risen in price to over $25K and ASC and Ford sold 479 convertible models which were now the only models offered with the hatchback being discontinued. With even more attractive body style changes by 1988. sales more than doubled to over 1. 00 cars for the first time. Leather seats. wheel and shift knob. ASC only center console. a premium sound system. 1" lowering sport springs and 15x7 McLaren wheels with Gatorbacks were now all standard and the ASC McLaren's sleek aerodynamic design had proved a marked contrast from the 'boy racer' looks of the Mustang GT. Total production in 1988 was 1. 15 cars with this particular car being # 918. This proved to be the peak of the ASC McLaren Mustang sales as unfortunately in 1989. a legal disagreement between ASC and Peter Muscat. the original brain-child/engineer of the new sporty and streamlined look and who had contracted ASC to first build the car based on his original design. over licensing and royalties caused a breakdown in production and a shortage of cars. In 1989 only 247 cars were built and by 1990 only 65. By 1991 ASC stopped building the cars altogether having built only 2. 78 cars in total over 7 years. ensuring that these rare cars would prove quite desirable and collectible in years to come. In summary. you will look long and hard to find a finer looking or driving example of this fully loaded and beautiful rare 1988 Ford Mustang ASC McLaren 5. 0L V8 Convertible with only 51K original miles for the ultimate and most likely fastest in it's class of all 1980's American muscle car driving fun anywhere else. Any of these 3rd generation Mustang late year models. between 1987-93. featuring a rounder and more aerodynamic body and are now starting to prove quite collectible and desirable amongst Mustang enthusiasts and this even more aerodynamic looking and low production version built by ASC McLaren will be the one to own for any Mustang enthusiast or collector! For further information contact West Coast Classics through EBay or on 310-399-3990 during regular California business hours.
