This 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca was the introduction to a whole new breed of Ford performance. It was the end of a generation of Mustangs, s an all-new car would debut a few years later, ut its single-minded dedication to performance on the track makes it not only a worthy successor to the name 'Boss 302' but also a benchmark against which all future Mustangs will be measured.If there's a late-model Mustang that was an instant collectable, his is it. Limited production, ncredible performance, nd outrageous looks all add up to a Mustang that belongs in any serious collector's stable. Silver with red accents was an uncommon combination but it works really well on a car designed to stand out. Of course, ith just 5782 actual miles, t's in virtually new condition in every way that matters. The silver paint glows, he bright red accents show off the car's more unique design features, nd the Boss 302 decals on its flanks echo the original 1969 Boss 302 look. The Laguna Seca package also added the chin splitter, hich is usually something that Boss buyers skipped simply because of its vulnerability, ut it remains intact and in excellent condition here. It also got a unique "Laguna Seca" fuel cap with a map of the legendary race circuit, ust in case the rest of the car wasn't arresting enough.The interior was built for combat, tarting with a set of ultra-supportive Recaro chairs that were custom-made just for the track. There are cut-outs for your harnesses, rippy ultra-suede inserts, nd a matching small-diameter steering wheel wrapped in the same stuff. The back seat was deleted, s was much of the sound-deadening materials, o you get the full experience everywhere you go. And yes, hat cool little X-brace in the back was factory equipment. Special carbon-fiber panels make the dash look racy, nd even A/C was optional (this car has it, ortunately). It also has a decent-sounding stereo, ut that's not really the point of the Boss 302. A trio of auxiliary gauges put the engine's vitals right up where you can see them on the track and the stubby shifter for the 6-speed manual transmission feels more like a toggle switch. The owner has thoughtfully installed a fire extinguisher up front, hich is not a bad idea if you're going to track the car, nd the trunk is as new with a custom aluminum battery box for the relocated battery.The 5.0 liter "Coyote" V8 was reworked for duty in the Boss, aking a thundering 444 horsepower. It's best enjoyed with the Track Key in place (the Track Key unlocks the Boss's full potential but keeps it out of the hands of the unworthy), nd thanks to upgrades like a cold air intake, BK throttle body, nd Steeda exhaust system, t's considerably more robust than it was when new. For a little extra boost, he catalytic converters have been removed, hich really frees up the Coyote's eagerness to rev, nd the original cats are included with the car. A custom computer tuner is also included so you can extract the most in each situation. The Boss suspension was already formidable, ut the pros at Steeda Motorsports offered a comprehensive upgrade that makes this car feel like a scalpel on the track and the giant disc brakes are insanely powerful. It's spotless underneath, uggesting a car that hasn't been used in the rain, nd those cool red factory wheels wear sticky 255/40/19 front and 285/35/19 rear performance radials.Expertly maintained and smartly upgraded, his is one of the most potent Mustangs we've ever experienced.
