Located in Lakeview New York Most people don't even know that these trucks were mad, t makes more sense to advertise this with the fords even though its a Mercur, ecause so few were mad, people aren't really shopping for a mercury picku, f you don't know anything about the, I suggest you do some research so you know what these are .
Mercury pickups were made from 1946 to 196, hey were not sold in the USA . 1968 being the last year it is said that around 290 trucks were mad, that's what I read on the net anyway) with production ending at the Oakville Ont.truck plant on 3/23/68 .. mercury pickups were also made at the san jose truck plant and that ending date is unknown .
after I had bought and paid for this truck back in 2001 the 2nd owner told me that not only is this the last year for mercury pickups but its the last one made . I did not believe him
This was all word of mouth between the truck driver who delivered it to frontier lincoln mercury (now Dingwall ford ) in Dryden Ont.and the head mechanic(service adviser). then that passed on from the salesman to 1st owner . the 1st owner seen it as important enough to epoxy the protecto plate to the glove box door .(still there)
but stil, don't think any of these people knew that mercury pickups were made at 2 factorys
and again the ending date for that is unknown . and they say its the last truck but they don't say how . if you think about i, it can be the last truck from about 3 or 4 different ways ..
what research I did d, found out it was built on the last day of mercury truck production at the Oakville plant . 3/23/68 . and have a letter fromford Dearborn research dept stating this.
i'm not claiming this is the last mercury pickup mad, ut others before me have . it is what is.
it might be. I just dont know how to do that research.
most people who got their hands on a mercury pickup have restored the, ery few are left with their original paint . you might find a few but it could be a motorless shell or a 50k restore, and there is one for $356,000 .
THE TRUCK
unmolested original paint - fair original conditio, umbers matchin, 00 - 6cy, ut, 8,800 miles .the seat is in fair shape no rips but the stiching separated on the driver side about 8 inches long. can be fixed . this is a 48 year old truck out of Canada and there is some rust but better than most trucks its age. no holes big enough to put your finger in . most the body rust through is 11 pinholes by the driver side headlight.it has patch panel cab corners poorly installed by the 2nd owner. and other poor bodywork along the bottom. looking at the back side of that panel where the body work was don, here is no rust through and i dont understand why that was done . unless he was trying to fix a dent . because of where it is parked, know the pictures of the passenger side is poor, ut i think it looks better than the driver side.
It will need an exhaust system soo, pipes and muffler work fine and its not loud at all. i found a ten inch piece of the tailpipe laying in my driveway the day i put it away in storage .
the motor runs ok but could be better with a fine tun, here is that timing sweet spot and its just off a bit .the original carb is included in a box now fixed . original rims and hubcaps included also.
this was a daily driver the first 12 years of its life then stored in a barn from 1980 to 2000 . then brought to the Niagara falls area and put in my barn from 2002 and still ther, riving it in the summers about 300 miles a year till 2013 then parked with a small gas leak at the carb fitting.
maybe 10 minutes time, ix the leak and I would trust driving it to Texas just the way it is. but thats me . (the truck has been sitting a few years and someone should check out the brakes - tires and steering before driving on the highway)
** some older ford products from these years can slip out or park and jump into reverse
this has happened with this truck and does it very easy .I just don't trust park with the motor running. **
those are the bad things or broken thing, could tinker with a few things to make it better . but that would take away the true barn find experience .
if you drive this people will follow you into stores and want to talk about your truck or pull up next to you at a light and say something. it happens almost every time I drive it.
real fun for the kind of guy who likes to drive something that no one else has.
these don't come up for sale very ofte, 968 final year trucks i see maybe one every three years. trucks like 1952 are more common and a lot more were made.
out of state buyers can get a 30 day temp tag / plate from the NYS-DMV . people who live in new york can't get one .
i'm willing to help out with what i can to make this transaction smooth, ive someone a ride to the DMV, ick someone up at the niagara falls or buffalo NY airport, ur small local airport is hamburg INC airport. the truck is located 17 miles south west of buffalo NY
Over the past 15 years I have bought or sold maybe 10 cars from ebay / auto trader and craigslist, allways go and take a look before i bid . and ask you do the same . with this truck, told the seller i would be willing to pay his full price if he just simply just hold it for me 3 weeks untill i get there .
most the cars i have had i got from out of state and even out of the country . i'm willing to help with what i can ..
for 2 of the cars one sell and one buy, he car was pulled off ebay and and sold right there and then .
this truck is also for sale local . and this auction can end anytime ..
