Third Owner, Original 1965 289-V8 Convertible

I am the third owner of this original 289 V-8 automatic with power steering. power brakes. and working convertible top. This California car has 160. 00 original miles. The heads were rebuilt for unleaded gas at about 100k. I bought the car around 1995 from a dentist in Torrance California with 73. 00 on the odometer. He claimed it had been stored in his garage for twelve years. It has been my daily driver since I bought it. The car was originally a powder blue. but the second owner had it painted a 1966 color "Nightmist Poly Blue". The car looks and runs pretty good. but should be purchased to do a full rebuild and restoration. Although the unibody is straight. one can see it has some rust below the back window and at the forward lower door areas and rear rocker panel. There is some rust on the surface of the trunk pan but has not rusted through. Expect to see faded paint. dings etc. on the body. It needs these corrections and a new paint job. The interior is original and needs full replacement. The convertible top incorporates a glass window and goes up and down easily . but the fabric is sun baked and needs replacement. The transmission has an internal problem and will not shift into third gear until the car warms up; then it works fine. The trans should be rebuilt. I have bypassed the heater core because it has a small leak. It needs repair or replacement. This car has it's original engine and transmission. air cleaner. valve covers. carburetor. manifolds. ignition keys. am radio. cigarette lighter and clock. The am radio works but is disconnected. The aftermarket radio is not grounded properly and needs attending to. Neither the clock or lighter are presently working. One of the original black plates is in the trunk (tags read July 1995) . and possibly . may be re-installed. (check with the DMV). The 15" steel belted radial tires have a lot of tread with an 1-1/4" white wall. There is an original (worn) bias ply spare tire. The left rear tail lens is broken and the bezel is dinged and needs replacement. This car attracts a lot of attention as it is. If you have the money to invest. it would be well worth your while to do so. I have saved many receipts for work performed on this car. I have the original owners registration certificate. Current California registration expires in August. 2015. Vehicles from 1965 are exempt from California smog certification. Hagerty prices a #4 condition of this car at $11. 00.
