1949 Ford Custom Coupe
Professionally restored between 2000 & 2005. I have a stack of receipts for everything that was done to the car. It has had some replacement panels, but it was done right. The car is all steel. It is not a hack job of patch work & bondo. This car was custom built for a gentleman with a big check book. Everything done was done first class. It has a crate motor 302 it's not hopped up for horse power. It's just a reliable smooth running V-8 with an Eldelbrock carburetor. The engine fires up easily & idles smooth & quiet. The transmission is a C4 Automatic & the rear end is a basic Ford 9" w/ a nice highway gear in it. The car has plenty of sound deadener & insulation in it to make for a quiet & comfortable ride. This car was built to have classic style with modern function & reliability. It does have power brakes. Rear drums & front disk. It stops great for a big heavy car. It has after marketgaugesunder the dash so that you can reliably monitor your engines performance. The electrical system has been replaced with a new wiringharness& a 12 volt system. It has a Griffin aluminum radiator. Chrome was all redone at the time of restoration & it all shines good except for a few spots on the rear bumper. All other bright work looks very good. The side pipes are just for decoration.
The interior is very comfortable & has obviously been redone nicely. There's a scratch on the drivers side door panel by the airplaneemblem, aside from that, it's flawless. All door seals & window gaskets are in good shape as these were replaced during the restoration. The pictures speak for the rest.
Vintage Air Conditioning blows ice cold. The system also works your defrost & heat & functions like a modern car. The windshield wipers are stillvacuumoperated but work perfectly as designed. I've driven this car in a heavy down pour & was surprised at how well they worked. The wipers didn't flop around out of sync either.
To summarize this car... It's a reliable cruiser. You could even use this as your daily driver. I wouldn't hesitate to drive cross country in it. It cruises nicely at 70 mph. Brakes as it should, turn signals, lights & wipers all work reliably. It does still have the original manual steering & front suspension, so you do have to hold the wheel & pay attention. As foraesthetics... there are minor scratches & chips you will notice when you go over it with a cloth the first time you polish it, but over all the body isextremelystraight without any body work imperfectionsvisiblein the gloss black paint. The finish is deep & glossy. It's not a concourse 100 point car, but there's no reason it wouldn't take a trophy from a small town car show. There's very little to complain about on this car. You won't have any regrets purchasing this car. Feel free to send a third party inspectors or appraisers.
