The Basics

Up for sale is my 2013 Ford Focus ST, with just under 40,000 miles. This car is loaded – top of the line ST3 option package with 8” Ford SYNC touchscreen with navigation, sunroof, premium Sony sound system, heated full-leather Recaro seats, HID projector headlights with LED accents, dual-zone automatic climate control, sunroof, and more. It has an aftermarket backup camera with a screen built into the rear view mirror (looks and works like a factory upgrade). The car has the beautiful (upcharge) Tangerine Scream Tri-Coat paint.
I’m the second owner – the first was a member of this forum, a Ford employee, and was as meticulous about caring for the vehicle as I have been. It’s never been in an accident and never needed any repairs. It’s never been tracked or raced. I’m selling it because my wife is 7 months pregnant, and I’m looking to buy a bigger vehicle.
Kelley Blue Book for the car is $18,919, and NADA is $20,325. Considering the condition, the upgrades and including the stock parts, I’m asking $19,500.
The car is located just outside of Philadelphia, PA. If you need a ride from the airport, or need me to meet you somewhere (within reason) just ask.
Condition
The exterior of the car is a 9/10. There’s less wear even than you’d expect on a 2013 – very few blemishes. There are a few minor paint chips, a tiny dent or two, etc. I have tri-coat touchup paint with primer and clear coat (I’ll include them with the car), but I’ve never had to use them.
I’d give the interior an 8/10. There are a few scratches in the plastic in the rear hatch area from loading and unloading various things, and there is a worn spot on the driver’s side floor mat. There’s also a very small puncture in the back of the driver’s seat, near the floor, that’s been repaired, but you can still see it if you’re looking for it. Otherwise the interior is in excellent shape with no issues.
Performance
To complement the car’s already outstanding performance from the factory, it also has installed the Ford Racing Performance Parts (FRPP) cold air intake with K&N filter, FRPP stainless steel cat-back exhaust, Eibach Pro Kit Springs, Bilstein Shocks/Struts, Unleashed Tuning 93 octane tune, Denso ITV-22 spark plugs (one step colder), and new Hawk HPS front and rear brake pads. The upgrades are tasteful, not detrimental to the “daily-driver-ability” of the car, don’t cause any NVH issues, and don’t result in any reliability concerns or check engine lights. Also, I have most of the original parts (exhaust, shocks/struts/springs, intake) – you’ll get them with the car.
A few notes about the performance upgrades:
  • FRPP intake and exhaust – these sound amazing together. The car is pretty quiet while you’re driving normally. Get into the throttle and the car makes a deep, throaty growl unlike most four cylinder engines. The exhaust was installed by a Ford dealership, I installed the intake.
  • Eibach Springs / Bilstein Shocks/Struts – The progressive springs actually ride more nicely than stock – they iron out the little stuff well, but respond immediately when thrown into a turn. The car sits maybe a ½” lower than stock. Together, they amplify the car’s already precise handling, and maintain that hilarious tail-happy characteristic the Focus ST is known for. These were installed at a Ford dealership and the car was aligned afterwards.
  • Unleashed Tuning 93 octane tune – Torrie at Unleashed Tuning is a legend on this forum, for good reason. This tune results in a smooth, meaty torque curve and is a big upgrade over stock mappings. Also included is the SCT 3030 tuner with multiple tunes – economy, stock, 91 octane, and 93 octane. You can change tunes at any time.
  • Denso spark plugs – Ford sells a Stage 1 bundle for this car – with the intake, exhaust, a tune, and these spark plugs. Even though I’m using a different tune than the Ford one, the colder plugs help keep down engine temperatures to protect the engine.
  • Hawk HPS pads – I just put these on less than 1,000 miles ago. They’re the best street pads you can buy. They feel less “grabby” than stock initially, but have smooth, linear, POWERFUL stopping power. They’d be great for light track use or on the street.

Maintenance/Repairs
I’ve been obsessive with the maintenance of this car. I’ve changed the oil ahead of manufacturer-recommended intervals with Royal Purple 5W-30 full synthetic and Royal Purple oil filters. I’ve literally had zero issues with the car – it’s been rock-solid reliable. As I’ve mentioned, the owner before me was the same way. The largest repair I’ve had done on the car was this – due to some significant driveway scrapes on the bottom of the front bumper, I had the front bumper professionally repainted by a dealership body shop. It came out perfect, although scrapes like that are somewhat unavoidable in the Focus ST, so there’s actually a small scrape there now. You can’t see it unless you’re under the car.
Warranty
The car has a fully-transferrable Ford Premium Care extended warranty – it covers practically everything. You’ll have to transfer the warranty at a Ford dealership – I believe they charge $75 to bring it into the name of the new owner.
Financial Stuff/Fine Print
I still have a loan on the vehicle from an online credit union, so it may be a bit of a process to get things transferred over to the new buyer, but I’ll do everything I can to make it as quick and painless as possible. Also, the miles will increase slowly as I continue to drive the vehicle prior to sale.
