Description

When was the last time you saw a 1989 gen 1 Taurus SHO with less than 100,000 miles on it?
It's becoming almost impossible to find one of these without 100K, 150K, or 200K miles on it, This one is really a rare find with less than 45,000 miles on it! This is my 4th SHO, and this is by far the nicest one I have owned. I bought it from the original owner to use it as a daily driver, but it is just too nice, and i just can't do it! This car is too nice to drive throughout the PA winter! After going to a couple of the biggest Ford shows on the East Coast, I now realize this car needs to go to a good home, or maybe even a museum. this car wasn't a barn find, but it was a heated, climate controlled, covered, warehouse find. The car has never seen much rain and it has NEVER seen any snow. The original owner only used it as a sunny day car on weekends.
Here's a run down for you:
1989 black with silver leather interior. I believe it is all original paint, but I'm not a professional expert, so I can't certify it, but I really think it is all original. There are a few little marks and nicks in the paint, and a little road rash in front of the back tires that looks about right for the mileage. Overall, the body and paint are extremely good and all I have done is use a cleaner / wax on it. If you want perfect, you can repaint it, but I think it should be left alone since it is so good, and it is such a great survivor. The interior has the base level package seats that are leather trimmed but still have the cloth insert so you don't cook while driving it. Most SHO's were loaded up, so to find one with a lower trim level like this is even more rare. I worked at a Ford dealer in '89, and I remember them coming in all loaded with every option you could get. The driver lumbar support that usually is destroyed is still in very good shape, but is showing some wear. It is the best one I have seen in years. The Yamaha V-6 and MTX manual transmission run great! this 3.0 puts out a lively 220 HP and this one is just getting broken in with only 45K miles on it.I just upgraded the shifter from the plastic shifter connector to the machined steel ones made by the SHO Source out on the west coast. It shifts flawlessly! The original basket weave wheels are in excellent ( but not perfect) condition. the nicest I have seen in awhile. they obviously have not seen the snow or salt fly from winter driving.Tires are brand new P215 x 65 x 15 Good Year Eagle GT Radials. They have less than a couple thousand miles on them.I just put new struts and coils on the front, and the originals are in the trunk and go with the car. The car just had a computer alignment. The car has an after market stereo in it, but the original stereo and power amp are also in the trunk. The optional factory power sun roof works great, I don't think it leaks, but I don't know because I do not drive this in the rain, and I have only wet washed it a couple times. Seriously, it slides back and flips up like it is supposed to. the louvered sun shade is in very good shape, but it is a little rough in the one corner. The original owner added a dealer installed rear wing that isn't the best, but I left it on the car.I did not restore the headlights! All I did was put a little McGuire's polish on them. I can't believe how perfect they are with no fading at all. This car has obviously been stored properly and has never been left outside sitting in the sun. the head lights are incredible!the fuel filler door cable works, as does the trunk release cable. All the power locks, windows, speed control, etc., lock flawlessly. The only thing I haven't done is mess with the A/C, I was tempted to convert it to the new R12, but wanted to keep the original R134, and I am getting mixed opinions on what to do, so the ice doesn't work very well, but the fans and switches all work fine, it just needs charged.I have the front license plate bracket that has the SHO logo on it. We do not have front plates in PA, so I have always take the brackets off. It is in great shape and goes with the car. I have a front bra that goes with the car also, but I don't like it and wouldn't recommend using it.
