1955 Ford Thunderbird Low Miles - Original Drivetrain - Hardtop You are viewing a nice, privately owned 1955 Ford Thunderbird with removable hardtop. Classic Cars Online is helping the owner with the presentation and listing of this fine vehicle. You will be purchasing this vehicle directly from the current owner who has owned this vehicle for over 36 years. The overall condition of the vehicle is very good. It is not a 100 point trailer queen show car, but a very solid rust free vehicle that has a few minor cosmetic issues. Some would call it a "ten footer". That being said, the car is very stock and hasn't been played around with and still retains a lot of the original items. It can be enjoyed as it currently sits, or the new owner can spend a little time and tinker around and detailing it out to take it to the next level. We will try to describe and go over most of the car, please read and view all of the 86 pictures listed below. Would you buy a car on ebay with four pictures and one paragraph of description? NO. That is why at Classic Cars Online, our listings will go over and show every area of the vehicle that is up for auction. Bid with confidence! Body & Paint: The vehicle was repainted about 6 years ago. (Basecoat/Clearcoat) This 1955 color is called "Goldenrod Yellow". The paint looks good and is holding up well. It is not perfect and does have some nicks, chips and some scratches. The vehicle still retains all of it original body panels and floor pans. There was no body filler used during the refinishing process. Only two small metal patch panels were used. The body panel fit OK, but not perfect. The vehicle is equipped with rear fender skirts that gives the vehicle a great look. The factory hardtop is also included with the sale of the vehicle. The auxiliary hardtop still has the original paint and headliner installed. The rear window in the hardtop is in great condition. The tan colored convertible soft top is in great shape. It was installed new when the vehicle was painted back in 2010. The rear plastic window is also in great shape. The rear window has a zipper that can be used to put the window down to let more air into the vehicle. Chrome & Trim: All of the chrome pieces are in very nice condition. No pitting or dulling. The bumpers have been rechromed and look good. The original stock stainless steel trim is in good shape with no major dings or scratches. (The trim was removed when the vehicle was repainted.) Interior: The factory looking black and yellow interior is nice but not perfect. The seats, door panels, carpeting have been replaced. The black dash and instrument panel area are both still all original. Everything looks stock with the only exception being the radio has been updated to a working AM/FM/Cassette radio. All of the gauges and instruments were converted to a 12 volt system. (Instead of the 6 volt system that the 1955 Thunderbirds came with.) The steering wheel and horn ring are nice and not cracked or broken. The vehicle has a power seat, heater, seatbelts along with floor mats. Engine Compartment: Sitting under the hood is the original 292cu.in. 198hp V8 engine. (All 1955 Thunderbirds came with 292 cu. in. engines.) This 292 power plant starts, runs, and idles well. The engine is feed by the original Holley (Teapot) 4000 Carburetor that has been rebuilt. The engine compartment is very stock looking with all the correct items such as the chrome air cleaner, Thunderbird valve covers, radiator, exhaust manifolds and generator. This original engine was rebuilt along with the "Ford-O-Matic" automatic transmission. It shifts out very nice and does not slip, jerk, or leak. (The owner has a stack of receipts from all the work over the years.) It is running great with no problems. The vehicle is equipped with Power Steering that is working great. The vehicle was rewired using a 1956 wiring harness to upgrade to a 12 volt system. Trunk Compartment: The trunk compartment is clean and very solid. The original trunk floor pans are still intact and very solid. It is sporting a correct looking trunk mat. The vehicle has a spare tire along with the original jack and jacking tools. Chassis & Undercarriage: The underside is original looking. The body was never removed from the frame. (It didn't need all that work.) It still has most of the factory undercoating installed. It has the typical dirt and grime from being driven and used over the years, but is solid. The brake system has been gone over. Everything that needed replacing was redid. There are no leaks or other problems with brake system. The brakes do not squeal, fade, pull or pulsate. The vehicle is equipped with power steering. The power steering unit has been rebuilt. The vehicle sits nice with new springs and shocks. It steers and drives very well with no known problems. The alignment is good and drives straight and doesn't pull. The ride is very smooth with the radial tires. The dual exhaust system is in good shape with no known leaks or problems. It does have the typical surface rust. It is not stainless or aluminized. It has the correct exhaust manifolds. The exhaust exits through the rear bumper. Glass: All of the original glass pieces are in nice shape. No cracks, chips or delamination. The windshield does have a few small stone nicks. The side windows roll up and down without any problems or issues. Wheels & Tires: The vehicle sits on four new P205/75R15 Coker radial wide white tires. They are in very good condition. These tires are mounted on the factory rims that are painted yellow to match the vehicle. Four Ford hubcaps are in very nice shape without any dings, dents, scratches or other problems.
