2007 SHELBY GT, ONE OWNER, 5,441 MILES, REGISTERED IN SHELBY REGISTRY, VISOR SIGNED BY CAROL SHELBY!
I am the only owner of the car, and if you want this vehicle, it’s probably worth understanding the story behind its purchase.
In 2006 Shelby worked with Ford and Hertz to develop a Shelby branded Mustang rental car, with a similar black and gold color scheme as they had used in the mid-60s, with the first Shelby/Hertz Mustang rental cars. This effort was separate from the 2006 “Shelby” GT 500, which was built 100% in Ford facilities, under license from Carol Shelby. After both the GT 500 and the Hertz Shelby Mustang were well received by buyers and the press, in 2007, Shelby worked with Ford’s Special Vehicle Team to release a limited edition Shelby GT (Mustang), very similar to the 2006 Hertz version, but with different color options and a manual transmission option. In 2007, you could get either white or black exterior color with silver stripes. The primary difference is the black version also had unique black torque thrust style wheels, where the white version had the polished wheels. The 2007 Shelby GT was actually modified at Shelby’s Las Vegas facility, and shipped to dealerships directly, just like the original Shelby Mustangs of the 1960s through 1970.
This is where I enter the story. Just as these cars were becoming available in dealerships, I received orders as an Army Reserve Officer that I was about to be mobilized for service in Iraq, supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. It was during this period that the Shelby GT caught my eye in a Hot Rod magazine article, and I decided that if I made it back home, I was going to buy one of these cars! After a little over 6 months in Iraq, my deployment was cut short by a spinal injury, and I was MEDEVACed out of Iraq. After surgery at Walter Reed, I was reassigned to the Warrior Transition Unit at Ft. Knox, KY for physical therapy and transition services. While I Ft. Knox, in early 2008, I managed to find a per a black 2007 Shelby GT at Town and Country Ford in Louisville, KY, and I purchased it the same day! When I was released from active duty later that year in 2008, I brought the car home with me to Michigan. Shortly after I returned, a friend of mine, who worked on Ford’s Special Vehicle Team (SVT), who were working with Carol Shelby directly, noticed the car and asked if I wanted Carol to sign it, since he was meeting with him the following day. At the time, I didn’t want to chance damaging the dash, so I just removed the driver’s side visor, and gave it to him to be signed. Carol, after being told my story, happily agreed to sign the visor (despite the fact that he rarely signed sun visors). Sadly, Carol had passed a couple years after signing my visor. Since then, the car has made another move with me to Virginia, so nearly 1,000 of the 5,440 miles on it now were highway miles from KY to MI and MI to VA. Other than that, I drive it a few hundred miles a year, just to keep it lubricated and drivable.
Unfortunately, I lost my job the end of 2015, and am in the process of moving back to MI to reduce my expenses. Although it breaks my heart to let go of this car, I really don’t have any other options. If you buy this car, I really hope you will appreciate it as much as I have, now knowing how, and why this car ended up in your hands.
