Description

Today we have listed for sale an all steel and very solid 1950 Ford 2 Door Sedan Hot Rod. This is a really cool car and fun to drive with all the right stuff - it's definitely one you need to take a closer look and and understand what it really is - and it's a car with some cool history to it as well. This belongs to a friend of mine who doesn't really want to sell. but at this time has to - he is out of indoor storage. I will do my best to describe it so that you feel you know it. It's hard to show the total story of this car in the words I use. but I have added as many pictures as possible - I tried to use pictures that covered the overall feel and look of the car. These pictures were mostly all taken at Evergreen Air Museum - I usually take them in front of a Douglas C-47 Skytrain that was part of the Normandy invasion in 1944. You will also note the Spruce Goose. a Saturn rocket and other planes in the background of some of the pictures. Evergreen is gracious in letting us use their planes and facility as a backdrop for these pictures. If you're ever in the McMinnville are please stop and see them - they have not only the air museum but an aerospace museum and an indoor water park! I use lower resolution so that anyone in the world can download them with relative ease. Please be aware that this car is advertised and for sale locally. nationally and globally. and we do reserve the right to end this auction at any time if the vehicle sells before auction ends. This very cool and very fun '50 Ford is definitely for sale and definitely on the money price wise. If you are SERIOUS about the car - please call my cell # 503. 580. 6225 if I don't answer the first time - try again later - if I am at work I may not be able to answer your call. Please be considerate of the time. This is just a great car - one you can drive. show off mess around with and show with pride - and know something that most people don't. Someone is going to get an enjoyable. fun and great old car here. Buy it today and be the envy of those who hesitated and missed. 1949-1951 Fords. Shoebox's they were and are called. A quantum leap forward for Ford at the time - the first really new car since WWII - Ford's first truly 'modern' car. Gone were the pontoon. 'fat' fenders. and in came swooping smooth sides and no more running boards. or anything that resembled them. Considered by many to be 'ho hum'. they have always been an intriguing car to me. and I have always had a certain affection for them having owned several from stock to severely sectioned and chopped. Meet 'Little Miss Five-oh". This particular car is one that most wouldn't give a second glance to. but the in the know hot rodder sees a thing or two that makes you go hmmm. The stance for one. and that idle. it just doesn't sound like a flathead now does it? The car led a pretty innocent life as a decent old and driven flathead V8 car up until the early 70's. About that time a bunch of fellows decided to get together and have some drag races to honor the 'oldies'. In Woodburn Oregon in 1976 - the Bicentennial year - the dragstrip first hosted the annual Oldies But Goodies Drags. One of the Portland area car clubs decided it would put together a car to drag race and honor those oldies. I don't know if this was a car they just had around or one they sought out. Regardless. they built this car for that first drag race. and it did well - it did so well it won it's class and surprised many by how well it performed. The car had spent a lot of time indoors before it was hot rodded. and has spent much time indoors since. Recently the car was gone through and lots of things paid attention to that needed to be - I will go through the car front to back so you know exactly what it is. The engine is the heart of this beast - and it's a fun one. It's a 1969 Chevrolet 327 Small block with a code on the engine pad of VRI0FE. This designates it as from a '69 full size car. This was the last of the 327s. and it's the highly sought after wide journal variety. The engine runs STRONG and though it isn't ultra trick by todays standards it has plenty of power to pilot this car faster than you want to go - If you want to that is. It has a cast iron 4bbl intake with a 3868922 casting code (Corvette?) with a Remanufactured Rochester 4bbl carb on it and a manual choke. The fuel pump is mechanical. It's got a bit of a cam but not too much - just enough to give it that just right lope. it reminds me of a Duntov 20/20 grind but I don't know how the grind exactly. Chromed and finned custom valve covers keep the oil where it should be and a recently rebuilt 12 volt generator handles the charging duties. The wiring is all new front to back with a full ATC blade type fuse box on the inner firewall like a modern car. emergency flashers. turn signals etc. there are many open circuits and wire available to add anything you'd like - nothing is unfinished as far as wiring. there are just more circuits and wires in the wiring kit than were needed. and the extras were left intact so you could add things like back up lights and such. The exhaust manifolds are stock and cast. and exhaust heads to shorty glass packs before exiting I check the cool little detail of the hand hammered out exhaust bells - angled and flared just right. The exhaust note is really cool - it's lumpy and healthy. which tells you the car means business. I call it 'snotty'. but that's just me. The radiator is new and the car cools exceptionally well. doesn't overheat or even close. even when idling for a while - for the most part the car runs around 160-165 degrees. It's all simple underhood and clean. Just as it should be. You'll note the firewall is red. not something that was recently done. maybe they were going to paint the whole car red? The VIN # for the car is on the original plate riveted to the firewall and that plate matches the VIN on the title. The transmission is a Muncie 4 speed. The case # is 3885010 which puts it as manufactured from 1965-67. I was told Chevelle. but can't verify. Tried to decode the date codes but a hard line is in the way of the first portion. The trans works and shifts well. just like it should. and my bet is it's a M-21 not a M-20. It's shifted by a Hurst linkage and shift lever which is really well placed for sitting in the seat comfy and still having a good seating/shifting position. The driveline is open modern type. and the rear is a later Ford 8 inch. It's a little noisier than I would like. but not terrible. 8 inch chunks are pretty common so that would be easy to change our. Make it a Posi for me thank you!! The car's brakes have been all gone through in the last year. new cylinders. shoes hoses etc. and a dual reservoir master used which makes for much safer stops and a peace of mind a single type doesn't give. The car stops straight. has a great pedal feel and stops better than stock. The steering has been tweaked too - drop spindles are up front to lower the car (a brand new but uninstalled set of lowering springs come with the car too) and new wheel bearings and the car handles as well as a '50 is going to with stock geometry and suspension. New shocks are on both ends. In the rear there are custom fabbed traction bars - really nicely done - as well as anti wrap up helper springs too. These guys wanted to stick the tires and win races! The wheels were redone. blasted and shot in glossy black in the last couple months. new lug nuts and shod with Coker Classic tires - 6. 70-15 up front and G78-15 out back. the wheels are all 5 on 4 1/2 bolt pattern. which is correct front and rear. The rears look new and the fronts new on the tread but probably older looking at the whitewalls. The wheel cover and cap options are endless. I thought it would look good with Spiders and or some of the spider type wheel trim rings. not the full sized type. but it can run full covers. dog dish caps. whatever you'd wish. All that said. the car is a hoot to drive. and goes like stink. It all works like it should and it drives. stops. steers and handles like a '50 Ford should. just faster and quicker to get to speed! Turn the key. push the button and she starts every time. never an issue. and super dependable. I have spent some serious seat time in the car the last couple weeks. which I love to do to give you a better feel for what the car is. and isn't. One thing I will and can tell you is that the car grows on you. and the more you drive it the bigger your grin and the more fun you have. Inside the car is pretty basic but is well on it's way to being fully upholstered. None of the glass is broken or cracked. and much of it (rear sides and one door glass - see pics) are original with Ford logos. which you don't often see. One thing you notice as you open and close the doors and roll up and down the windows is how tight they all are. The vent windows look and work like new. which is just crazy. This car is stinking solid. nicer than any than I have had. One thing I do know is on the few nights it's set outside in the Oregon rain (2-3 inches one night!) the car absolutely does not leak water inside - we did a double take on that one. don't all old cars leak? The dash has been painted obviously. though the original oil spec sticker is still on the glovebox lid. There is a Dixco tach nicely and tastefully mounted where the clock would have been and it's functional. Speedo and odometer work. There are voltage. oil pressure and temp gauges that all function and are in a cool little finned vintage panel. fuel guage as well and it works - it's in a panel that is custom fit and bolted into radio opening. not hacked in - you'll notice that the interior is all that way. tastefully done - not hacked up. Wipers work great and have new arms and blades. It's all set up for a horn but there isn't one underhood. Heater core is new and is connected with coolant running through it as it should be. and all heater and vent ducting is intact and in place. The heater fan needs to be converted to 12volt. but the fan. blower cage and housing all come with the car. it will be boxed and in the trunk. The seats up front are '63ish Impala buckets with original and pretty darned nice upholstery. The door panels front and rear are simple but newer and there are round door speakers in place. my assumption is that it had a stereo at some point in time. more recent than older judging by the speakers. The headliner has been replaced recently - a home job. not pro high dollar or show but it's there. nbsp;like new and not terrible. The rear seat upholstery is original and really all the car needs is a set of carpets. recover the rear seat. put in a glove box cardboard liner and done - complete interior. Floor patches have been installed and the entire floor has been POR coated from front to the trunk. The trunk floor itself and the tire well are as nice as I have seen in one of these. The car has a spare tire but no wheel. 15 inch 5 on 4 1/2 Ford pattern. pretty common. There are no perfs in the floor. though there are a couple spots where there were holes drilled. and are covered over/plugged. The trunk is pretty darned solid with only a minor couple spots of perf toward the very rear. There is nothing hidden or covered up here. and the honesty of this car is a big deal - it's not crunchy like so many and it's really as solid as you will find for a '50 Ford. The body looks to have had one repaint in a close to original color. The right fender has been replaced at some time. definitely not recently. maybe even the hood. but often the hoods flew up and a replacement hood on one of these shoeboxes isn't all that unusual. The trunk lid is peeling to a blue color here and there. so maybe that was replaced at one time too. The rockers are decent for a 65 year old car and like the rest of the car are just honest. There are minor pits and some small and minor perfs here and there. but it's super solid. and as solid a car as you will find. with nothing hidden or lurking that will 'pop up' from under new or fresh paint. The metal is really solid and the car isn't squeaky or rattley. Look under both the doors in the pictures- both have the original bottom weatherstripping in place and there is no rust out or rot. We don't use salt here in Oregon. and you will find some of the nicest sheet metal on the planet here. The paint has been on a good 40 plus years. so there's nothing creeping or pervasive. or hidden here. Patina is in. and I am surprised this has lasted like this. through the times when it wasn't in! You could buff it to a shinier finish. but as it sits is ok to me. The stainless around the glass is really nice and tight - again. as nice as I have ever seen. Yeah. there are a few dings and bruises. but it is what it is. One could certainly redo the paint. but for now. I wouldn't - just enjoy it. and have fun. Here's the coolest thing about this car - it can be as it sits. nbsp; be a tail dragger by simply dropping the rear. a full custom. a street rod or a hot rod - just a few touches here and there are all it needs for a total transformation. The powertrain will adapt to any of those changes and it will still be a mean snotty. cammy. nbsp;but fun old ride. It can be a show stopper and attention grabber as is. tweaked. or whatever you want done with it. The car is not for the shy as people will smile. wave. thumbs up and want to talk to you every where you go. As I said early on. I didn't give the car a lot of thought early on. but the more I'm around it the more it speaks to me and it's really trying to stay around - I only wish my '51 were as solid a car and had this drive train. brakes. wiring etc. It's prettier. but sometimes beauty is just on the surface. nbsp;instead of inside like this car. I really dig the car and I think you will too. This car is just as it has been kept - we've not detailed. fluffed. rattle canned. covered or phoneyed anything in any way - it's a super honest and clean old Ford. a hoot to drive and easy to care for and enjoy. Title is clean and clear with no brands or encumbrances. If the car stays here in Oregon the license plates can stay with. but out of the state the plates stay here.
