Description

I have a highly improved 1990 Ford Mustang LX 5. 0 for sale. I've put together a detailed and thorough description of the car to help you make an informed decision if this is the right car for you. After reading through. please don't hesitate to get in touch with any questions or if you'd like additional pictures of any aspect of this car. Thanks for looking - I hope you enjoy the read! Please note: the car is being advertised locally and being shown to interested buyers at this time. I may end the auction early if the car sells locally. This car started life as a CHP interceptor. This is an authentic SSP (Special Services Package) car. One of the main benefits of these ex-SSP cars is they are ultra light-weight. They are the lightest V8 cars you could get for the era. In my ownership. I've built it up to be something even more impressive. I've owned the car for the last 16 years. The chassis has just under 96k miles all items listed below have less than 1. 00 miles on them. This car has a manual transmission and the desirable 3. 08 rear end / differential. About the build / upgrade design of this car:I am an avid car enthusiast. I've raced and been an instructor for various racing and club racing organizations. I've had a lot of time behind the wheel and have a good appreciation for a well configured car. As everyone knows. Fox body 5. 0 Mustangs are great at acceleration. However. I wanted a car that could do everything well - accelerate AND brake AND turn. When I designed the build of this car with the shop who did the work I had one goal: "I want to be able to embarrass Porsches in all 3 ways". That's what this car is designed to do: ACCELERATE hard. BRAKE strong and TURN precisely. I wanted a car that performed exceptionally well in all aspects. A lot was spent on high end components to make this all possible. And this car delivers like you won't believe. Acceleration (engine):I wanted the car to still be reliable on the street so I didn't want the engine to be too high-strung. We are pulling more power out of the engine. but more attention was spent on building strength into the engine parts. Braking:Any performance driver will tell you races are won while braking. This notion was the inspiration for this car. I knew the car would be fast and I wanted to have tremendous confidence when it came time to slow her down. The Baer kit is simply huge. The rear rotors are larger than most front rotors you'll see. The entire kit is light weight (I pay close attention to unsprung weight!!). I built in the ability to tune and adjust the brake bias to suit driving situations and style. Turning (suspension):As with the other performance attributes of this car. I wanted to have complete confidence in the car's ability to turn precisely. Two things were important in this component - I wanted to increase the frame rigidity (which is already very solid due to the full length roll-cage) and I wanted to improve the geometry of the suspension for better road handling characteristics. The Maximum Motorsports solution is one of the most awarded kits available. The Good (all with less than 1. 00 miles on them):To start with. the car is solid - no rust. no accidents. no issues. I spent over 2 years searching for the right LX Coupe for my project. I wanted a clean. un-abused. solid car. The engine was a complete rebuild by Whitman Performance Engines. Engine was bored. polished. honed and balanced. GT40 HeadersNew Summit Racing engine kit used in the rebuild for improved parts includingforged pistonschromoly faced compression ringsSS-50 oil control ringsmain. cam. and rod bearingshydraulic pumpall new gasketslifters. etc. Ford Racing E303 spec cam. New ARP rod boltsNew SI Valves performance valves and related hardwareNew Comp Cams springs. pushrods. rollers. rocker. etc. All new accessory drive items like water pump. alternator. etc. New high performance cooling system. New Zoom Performance Kevlar clutch (full system)New Baer Brakes. These brakes are about as good as they come and bring this car down from speed amazingly well. The kit includes:Oversized zink plated drilled + slotted lightweight rotors4-piston calipersbias adjustment (front to rear)Stainless brake lines. New Maximum Motorsports full-car suspension kit. Why I chose this kit: when Motor Trend tested this kit on a 1990 LX. they posted the 3rd fastest slalom speed ever recorded by Motor Trend. To this day. the 72. 5 MPH slalom speed achieved in that test is still near the top of the all-time slalom speed list. The kit includes:H&R Road & Track Springs (upgraded choice)MM Caster/Camber Plates (MMCC9093) (select Black or Chrome finish option)Bilstein struts (V36-4138-H5)Bilstein shocks (B46-2148-H1)Front and rear Urethane Spring IsolatorsUrethane Pinion Snubber (MMPS) (solid axle Mustangs)MM XL Series Full-length Subframe Connectors (MMFL-5B)MM Strut Tower Brace (MMSTB-1)MM 4-Point K-Member Brace (MMKB4-1)MM Panhard Bar with Aluminum Rod (MMPBA)MM Heavy-duty Rear Lower Control Arms (MMRLCA-1)MM Solid Steering Shaft (MMST-11)MM Solid Steering rack Bushings (MMST-7)Front Swaybar bushingsFront Swaybar end linksFront control arm bushings. urethane (6-205-BL)New custom hi-flow exhaust (OMG. what a great sound!!) New fuel system (tank. sender. pump. filter. etc)New 5-lug conversion. New Ford SVT lightweight wheelsNew Hoosier R6 max performance tires. The car has an Autopower easy-access. full length rollcage welded to the frame. which really makes the car solid. Here's the BAD as far as I see it:(this all depends on where you see the value in this car --remember my goal with this car-- but I want to make sure you are aware of every detail. no matter how small). Mechanical:-- The car needs the engine control module reprogrammed for the new cams. I've talked with a performance shop about 30 minutes away who is known as one of the best in the region and they will do the custom programing for around $500. That is the only mechanical requirement on the car. Otherwise. everything else is new and in great shape. The next (last) phase of my project was to work on things that were purely cosmetic and about the looks of the car. Cosmetic:The left taillight is cracked / broken. Probably something a cop would ticket. Used lenses can be found on eBay for around $40. you can get new lenses on eBay for both sides for around $120. The headlights have a slight yellow haze. They work just fine. It's that common hazing that happens with older plastic lens covers. A full set of new lens (all six) can be purchased off eBay for $89. The carpet has been removed from the car. I started to remove weight from the car and that was one thing that went. The floor of the car is exposed metal. A new carpet kit can be found for $100-$150. Everything else from the interior is present. The next owner can determine what to do with the interior. I was going to replace the stock seats with high performance seats. The stock seats are in very good condition. The car does not have any of the Ford or 5. 0 emblems. I don't know if those just fell off after the CHP painted the car or someone took them off. Missing are the 5. 0 emblems on both side. the Ford oval on the trunklid and the Mustang logo on the dashboard. If this matters to you. all can be bought off of eBay for under $50. The paint. this is a typical CHP respray. The paint is NOT show quality. It is flaking off around window moldings in some places. There is orange peel happening on one fender. The yellow plastic bumper material is showing through on both bumpers. The left rear quarter panel / fender got dented by a trailer hitch from a SUV backing up that didn't see the car. The dent was repaired but only painted with black primer. Why I'm selling:This car has been a passion of mine. but I've decided to make a big change in life. I've sold my house which has my 1500 sqft garage / workshop. I now don't have time or room for this car or to finish the remaining small items. How I came up with my price:I looked at what stock notchbacks in the same condition and mileage go for. Then I considered the value of all the upgrades I've put into the car and subtracted the costs for the few remaining items. Here is my math:$5. 00 for a good condition. stock 1990 Notchback with 96. 00 miles (looking at other listings)$3. 00 for the engine rebuild (parts + labor)$4. 00 for the Baer Brakes (parts + labor)$3. 00 for the Maximum Motorsports kit (parts + labor)$2. 00 for the 5-lug conversion and new SVT wheels and Hoosier tires$2. 00 for the exhaust and other misc upgrades (parts + labor)That's a total of about $21. 00. $16. 00 spent on the upgrades. I am realistic. I know upgrades don't have great "resale" value. I'm figuring about 1/3 or 33 cents on the dollar equals about $5. 00 in value. That puts it around $10. 00. Then I'm reducing it for the items the car needs (about $500 for the reprogram and $50 for a tail light lens). Here's what I'm looking for in this transaction: The right buyer for this car is someone who wants this car and respects the amount of time and money I've spent on it and sees it as a unique Notch that's not like the rest. They will recognize that I chose high quality products and I'm not the type who cuts corners or hides junk with a quick paint job. They will see that I'm the kind of guy you want to buy a car from because I'm the type who not only sweats the details but pays for quality. The right buyer will engage me in a reasonable conversation about what we both agree is the car's value. KBB can't tell us. This is a unique car. Technically a one-of-a-kind. It's up to me and the person who wants this car to decide it's value together. I'm a very reasonable seller. I'm looking for a reasonable buyer. And looking to have a mature conversation about an agreed value. If this sounds like you. it would be great to talk with you. Until then. thank you for considering my car!Additional pictures can be seen here: http://1drv. ms/1xnM0DZIf you are interested. please contact me with any questions or to discuss further. I am open to reasonable offers. I'm willing to help with shipping that you procure. Title in hand. Title is 'clean' meaning no salvage. etc. but is labeled as prior police (obviously) since it was a CHP SSP car. Thank you!
