Description

You are bidding on a Chamomix white 1975 BMW 2002 w/ sunroof and 4 speed manual transmission. Mileage is like 104,xxx since the speedo has rolled over. I'm extremely thorough and honest when selling anything sowill answer all questions to the best of myability. Check my feedback. I'll tell you more than you need to know in this posting and more than you'll find in any other posting so you know exactly what you'regetting, o surprises.
I bought this car about 2 months ago in Portland, regon (i'm located in San Francisco)and drove it down the I-5 for around 700 miles home so it's a solid runner. With the sound and smell of a 1975 car it was ahell of an adventure. When I was cruising the rear left rear rim came off and the car skidded on the rear drum brake. I had the rear drumsrebuilt with a $500 Ireland Engineering Rear big brake kit which is a really nice upgrade.
When I got back to the Bay Area, had the clutch rebuilt which was an $1800 job at German Auto Sport,probably the best shop for servicing BMWs in the Bay. They are extremelythorough and the car shifts amazing now.
That all being said, currently have another carand motorcycle and can't (financially) take on aproject. I also don't have a garage to do the work myself so my only option would be expensive Bay Area repair shops. Rather than letting it sit for a year while I save up, want to sell to someone that'll put time into it. It has a clean Oregon title that I haven't switched over to my name andwill have 2 previous sellers on it. Not a bigdeal, 'll sign it and you can register or wait and register yourself. I only waited since CA charges like $500 to register a car and I wasn't sure if I was keeping it.

The good:
  • Solid m10 engine (no leaking) with Weber carb - carb is a $300 upgrade that previous owner did
  • All matching numbers
  • Smog Exempt (at least in CA-- check your state)
  • Including Nardi steering wheel ($320 new), rowders hub ($100), nd NRGquick release ($100). I'll include the originalwheel that is missing 3/4 horn buttons. If youdon't like that setup you can just sell the new wheel and accessories and make $500.
  • Sunroof works and doesn't leak
  • Ansa exhaust tip. Engine sounds great
  • Window seals seem tobe solid as I've driven it in rain
  • Engine fires up easily, ith or without choke (2 pumps of gas pedalbefore starting to activate choke, ne pump todeactivate)
  • Body is ingreat condition with only a minor dent in the driver door which could easily bestraighten if you pull the door off
  • Engine bay is clean and easy to work in. Front shock towers are very solid as far as I can tell
  • Recent paint job.Although, f you're doing body work below you might want to do a fresh job
  • 14 inch bottle cap rimswhich are about $75 each. I'll throw in a spare.
  • Tires are in good shape with lots of life left
  • Suspension feels solid although you'd want to work through and replace bushings
  • Lights/flashers work although hazards currently only trigger the left blinkers (someone with electricalexperience could likely figure this out in minutes)
  • I drove it 700 miles at around 70mph and it felt solid
  • Clutch has less than 10 miles on it. I did this to drive around a bit and get it in a better shape to sell. You'll be hard pressed to find a shop that will do asthorough of a job as German Auto Sports in Berkeley
  • Seats (front and rear) were recently redone and are really soft/comfortable and looks great although doesn't match door panels (kind of a cool look though if you're not obsessive about matching)
  • Modern CD Player and 2 speakers- The previous owners wiring job is sub-par but it all works
  • Car looks amazing andturns heads
  • Oil, ransmission, iff fluid have been changed in the last 20 miles and it all looked good so no concerns that it's been in there for a while
  • Dash is in good shape with only minor cracks (see photos)


The not-so-good:
  • **Rust- this is the reason I'dlike this to go to someone with metal working experience or knows a reasonable shop. In the Bay Area, his is near impossible to find since everyone wants to do rushed insurance jobs on new cars
  • I haven't peeled up the carpet but you'll want to rebuild the pedal box structure,likely replace 2 or 3 floor pans, atchunder the rear seat and fix up the trunk (spare well is in bad condition and other areas have holes) and patch the front driver's side frame rail (this should be done soon before driving too many miles). When I press hard on the rear shock towers they feel solid and don't budge but they look like they have a good amount of surface rust so you'd want to take down the paint and inspect. There is also minor bubbling on the roof
  • The previous ownerpulled out the AC and heatdoesn't work. This means there is some extra wiring thatdoesn't go anywhere. If I were keeping it, 'd go through the manual andjust remove unnecessary wiring to clean it up
  • Center console is incomplete (missing areaaround shifter) - I'd recommend replacing or building a custom one. Lot's of cool samples online
  • Carpet is dirty from 40 years and being tan. Could maybe shampoo it but probably best to replace
  • Youmight want to put the tire on the new rim- included, ince when rear left rim wobbled off (see above) it likely warped the holes for the lugs
  • Speedometer isn't working. I hooked up the cable to thetransmission and it seemedto work for a day but is no longer. You'lllikely want a new cable (easily found online)
  • German Auto pointed out the rear bumper seemed to havetaken a small impact. I have no history on this but if I were keeping it I'd pull off the unsightly US bumpers anyways. Whatever impact seems to have only affected the rear bumper.
The very minor:
  • Horn is currently disconnected at the horn relay (in engine bay). When Iturned the wheel itwould activate horn. This islikely due to the brasshorn ring contact needing cleaned/aligned. Thisshould be easy but I just haven't got to it.
  • Hazards onlyflash out of the left side and button is kept in by zip-tie.Shouldn't behard to troubleshoot
  • Steering wheel is like 15 degrees off center. I rushed putting it on (doh) and all you need to do is remove and rotate the hub
  • The alternator (L) light on dash isdimly lit. The alternator works but this is a common problem and couldlikely be easily fixed
  • The locks could use some WD40. They all open/lock butcould use lubricant to not stress the key as much
  • There are about 3-4 small chips in front windshield but they haven't led to a crack or anything
  • Somehow the rear bumper has a melted rubber section of about 2 inches (see photos)
  • Chrometrim is in good shape but some minordenting on front (see photos)
  • Last ownerplastidip'd the rims which peelsright off. I started this but buyer will likely want to finish peeling off
