| | Honda Civic HX Coupe 1997 red with charcoal interior I purchased this sweet little Honda in November, 1999 when it had 43,766 miles on the odometer. It now has 183,050 miles. I have taken several long trips in this car, so it has a lot of highway miles, which are less wearing than city miles. Specifications: - 1.6 liter 4-cylinder engine with fuel injection
- 5-speed manual transmission
- Rated for 37 MPG city and 44 MPG highway.
- Contains parts from US/Canada (60%) and Japan (20%).
- For more information, see the photo of the original sticker.
Service records - I have kept nearly all of the service tickets for this car. Spradley Barr also has records in their computer.
- For the last several years, synthetic oil has been used. Currently, it has Castrol Magnatec with ‘intelligent molecules’ to minimize engine wear. The next oil change is due in about 2500 miles.
- The battery was purchased February 28, 2016, and is still under warranty.
- The timing belt and water pump were replaced on Sept 23, 2010 at 146866 miles. Timing belts need to be replaced every 84 months (7 years), so this Honda is due for a new belt around September of 2017.
- The tires have about 14,500 miles on them. They have been rotated on a regular schedule at about 5000 miles. The last rotation was at 182,650 miles.
- The most recent repairs include new fuel injectors, thermostat, and spark plugs.
The best things about this car: - You can just start driving it. No services are needed at this time, as far as I know.
- Other than the front edge of the roof and the visors, the interior is in very good condition. There are no tears in the upholstery or carpeting, and no cracks in the dashboard or other plastic parts.
- The trunk is surprisingly large.
- It has been exceptionally well maintained.
- When traveling, I keep records of gas mileage. It really does get 40+ MPG on the highway.
- It’s fun to drive! The manual shifting is very easy and smooth.
This is a terrific car for the price, but here are a few disclosures: - It does not have an air conditioner. However, the ventilation, defrosting and heating systems are very good. To add air conditioning, a compressor can be installed.
- The body has significant hail damage from a tornado that passed through Colorado in 2008. The insurance company considered the car totaled because the repairs would have been more than the car was worth at the time. So it has a salvage title, but it has never been wrecked.
- The rear passenger-side tail light cover is damaged. The lights work fine.
- The pull lever that opens the hood is partially broken. The hood can be opened with creative use of a pair of pliers (included).
- It really needs a paint job. The clearcoat is peeling off in places, and there are some small dents and a few rusty spots. But for a 19-year-old car, it’s not too bad.
- The front edge of the ceiling and the visors are deteriorating.
Included: - Upgraded speaker system: Cerwin Vegas in the front and Focal 6x9 speakers in the back.
- Thule bike rack
- Seat covers, old but functional
- Floor mats, also old but usable
- Full tank of gas
- Owner’s Manual
- Extra keys
- Valet key
- Window shades (Magic shade sunshade)
