Description

2001 Honda Insight

Rare first generation Insight. Light and fuel efficient

This car has been used as a commuter car in Phoenix, AZ. It is driven 100 miles each work day. It has been an outstanding drive to work vehicle. In the picture that shows the dash, you can see that my average mileage (for the 100,000 miles I have driven the car) has been 50.9 MPG. I get a little worse in the summer with the AC going and a little better in the winter.

The car is in very good condition mechanically. I do not know of anything wrong mechanically. The IMA battery was replaced in July of 2015 with a Bumblebee battery, purchase price of $2340 (https://bumblebeebatteries.com/hybrid-battery-replacement/). Bumblebee says this battery comes with a transferable 3 year warranty. I found them an excellent company to deal with. I will send the winning bidder a copy of my purchase receipt.

The CVT automatictransmission works perfectly. One thing that these Insights did not have from the factory was a cruise control. I put one on from Rostra (http://www.rostra.com/). It works very well. However, and I imagine this is why Honda didn’t offer it, It hurts mileage by about 3-4 MPG. I think this is because it is constantly, immediately, adding power when the speed drops off. The best way to get maximum mileage is to keep the accelerator pedal as stationary as possible. With the long commute, I was glad to sacrifice the mileage.

Interior is very good for a car of this age. There are a few minor stains. No rips or tears. The exterior has no dents. On one occasion I hit a big piece of tire tread with theleft front tire. It did some damage to the black plastic inner fender. I have repaired that. However, a key part of the repair involved wire tying the front bottom edge. I have tried to show that with a picture. It is pretty unnoticeable from the side, but I want to be sure to identify issues with the car.

The paint is not very good. It does not look as good as the pictures show. The main issue is that the hood and top have developed weather cracks in the clear coat. I have tried to show that in one of the pictures with a close up ofpart of the hood.If that is not acceptable, this is not the car for you.

The car is also for sale locally. I reserve the right to cancel the auction at any time prior to the auction close.
