Description

This auction is for a 2006 Hyundai Sonata finished in Bright Silver with the Gray velour interior. This car according to my research is the record setting highest mileage Sonata in the USA of this generation. In fact. it was recognized by Hyundai as being the first documented NF model Sonata to reach a quarter million miles. and that was back in 2012! Not only does that mean the price of the car is one of the lowest you will find. but that you also have the bragging rights to that fact. So if you are one of those people that take pride in being able to maintain a car to such high mileage. that aspect is priceless. Just imagine the expression on the faces of your friends and family when you first show them the car. then when you tell them how many miles it has. and finally when you show them the plaque. Everyone I’ve showed the car to was pretty amazed as well. And don’t let the high mileage worry you. as this car has had over $3. 00 in recent parts and maintenance that those other Sonatas listed here with half or a third the mileage probably haven’t had but will most certainly be due for soon after purchase. details of which are further down in the description. In other words. this Sonata rides like a new Sonata because the entire front end was rebuilt with new struts. ball joints. bushings. etc. . while those other Sonatas listed here ride like 100. 00 mile cars since they still have their original worn parts. This 2006 Sonata is powered by a 162 horsepower 2. 4 liter DOHC 16-valve all aluminum engine that has received numerous rave reviews by engineers and the automotive press for it’s high power output. excellent economy and inherent smoothness. Code named Theta. this engine features an aluminum engine block and head for light weight and maximum heat dissipation. a balance shaft for smoothness. dual overhead cams with CVVT (Continuously Variable Valve Timing) for maximum power output at all engine speeds. a steel timing chain for reduced maintenance instead of a rubber timing belt found in many other cars that need periodic replacement. multiport fuel injection for excellent gas mileage. drive by wire throttle for precise engine control and coil on plug (COP) ignition for reliability in all environmental conditions. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. a relative rarity in larger 4-door sedans these days. You will probably find less than one out of 50 Sonatas equipped as such. This transmission shifts through the gears with the precision you would expect of rear wheel drive sports sedans such as BMW. while the clutch action has the smoothness to match with a nice light pedal feel. An all-season electronic traction control system (can be turned off with a switch in the dash) lets you drive through snow and ice covered roads in the winter and mud or sand year round with confidence. Rounding out the Sonata are a suspension and brakes designed to give a smooth yet controlled ride. Start off with a rigid chassis and unit body construction for a stiff foundation and add in a four-wheel independent suspension with MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link setup in the rear as well as anti-roll bars all around. Add rack and pinion steering and 16 inch low profile tires for precise handling. For secure braking there are 4 wheel discs with Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS) for maximum control in all road conditions along with an Electronic Stability Control program (ESC) that uses the components from the ABS system and the electronic throttle to regulate engine torque to enhance directional control with over/understeering of the vehicle being counteracted by applying brakes to the appropriate wheel to create a countervailing vehicle movement. The Sonata is classified by the EPA as a “large” car. yet because of the manual transmission and a relatively low 3. 00 pound weight. is rated at 34 mpg highway. With a little moderation of driving habits. some drivers can even top 40 mpg. And this car runs great on regular gas. If you frequently carry passengers. those who sit in the back will enjoy the extensive legroom that similar cars can’t match. The Sonata was redesigned for 2006 and is improved over the previous model in every respect. Both mechanically and stylistically this new design Sonata has earned the reputation of becoming one of the best values among vehicles in its class. The Sonata’s new exterior style is quite attractive. From its smooth lines and sweeping aerodynamic curves incorporating elements from premium European sports sedans. it looks handsome from any angle without being flashy. The best comparison to the Sonata’s styling would be Audi’s A4 and A6 models of the same year. Start up front with its rounded bumper and an upper black honeycomb grille and a secondary lower air intake grille. Notice the clear lens projector beam headlights with jewel effect reflectors and how aerodynamically they blend into the body. Next. look at the hood with its creased character lines and fenders that have a hint of flaring that add an aggressive look. The steeply raked windshield and slab side doors flow into smooth curves along the sides of the car with body colored door handles. mirrors and moldings for a euro chic monochromatic look. Then. going back. the cars’ lines meld smoothly from the steeply raked rear window into a short trunk lid surrounded by large taillights. while the bumper has a smooth shape to reduce wind resistance and smooth airflow away from the body. The exterior is beautiful to look at. but the interior design is all new as well. Get in and sit down into a bucket seat that adjusts to the perfect driving position with settings for height adjustment and recline. Check out how comfortable the cushions feel along with the plush velour upholstery. Then adjust the tilt leather wrapped steering wheel to achieve complete driving control. Notice how the thickly padded rim affords just the right grip and that the cruise control switches are just a fingertip away. A two-tone nautical blue over gray interior color scheme adds visual appeal. Next. look ahead at the instrument cluster with the large easy to read tachometer and 150 mph speedometer. If it’s nighttime. turn on the lights and see how all the switches in the dash and doors are back lighted for easy identification. Look right and left at brushed aluminum trim on the doors and center console as well as on the climate controls and shifter surround. Not only is the styling very handsome. but all the textures have a rich feel and look and all the switchgear have a precise soft touch action. From the plush weave of the velour upholstery. the graining pattern on the dash and door panels. or the layout of the knobs and switches on the dash. everything looks and feels like it came from a more expensive car. This Sonata is fully equipped with all the desirable safety. comfort and convenience features and equipment including: 162 H. P. 2. 4 liter DOHC 16-valve engine 5-speed manual transmission Air conditioning with cabin air filter Power windows with one-touch express down and up for drivers window Power door locks Cruise control Tilt steering wheel Leather wrapped steering wheel Steering wheel mounted cruise controls Factory stereo with CD/MP3 player Premium velour cloth upholstery Reclining front bucket seats with drivers height adjustment Dual front seatback storage pockets Front door panel storage compartments Body color exterior mirrors. door handles and moldings Center console with dual cup holders. storage compartments and two 12V power outlets Front center arm rest Front overhead mini console with map lights and storage compartment Dome light with theater dimming Instrument cluster with 150 MPH speedometer. tachometer and dual trip odometers Illuminated cockpit switches and controls Four overhead passenger assist handles 60/40 split fold-down rear seat backs that open to the trunk area Rear fold-down center armrest with dual cup holders Remote keyless entry with trunk release Integrated switchblade remote flip keys Factory alarm system Tinted glass Intermittent wipers Dual power heated outside rear view mirrors Dual illuminated visor vanity mirrors Sunvisors with pull-out sun block extensions Clear lens projector beam headlights with jewel effect reflectors Rear window defroster Remote trunk lid and fuel door release Tethered gas cap with cap holder in fuel door Trunk compartment light and 12V power outlet Trunk lid liner and interior release handle Insulated hood liner 5-mph impact absorbing bumpers Front and rear stabilizer bars 4 wheel anti-lock disk brakes (ABS) Electronic Stability Control (ESC) Advanced Dual Stage front airbags with passenger sensor Front seat side airbags Front and rear side head curtain airbags Seat belt pre-tensioners Active head restraints LATCH® System rear child seat anchors And many more items too numerous to mention. It has a straight body with just a few minor touched-up scratches and blemishes you would normally expect on a used car. The only items to note are some shallow ripples in the right quarter panel but without any paint damage. and the right mirror housing has a hairline crack. The paint itself is beautiful and shiny and this Bright Silver paint just about glows in the sunlight. It has just been cleaned with Meguiar’s Smooth Surface Clay System. polished with Meguiar’s Mirror Glaze cleaner polish and topped off with Meguiar’s Ultimate Synthetic wax for a high gloss shine. All the glass. moldings. trim and emblems are excellent. The interior is nice as well with no rips or tears in the upholstery just a few wear spots on the drivers seat and a few touched up spots on the left rear seat. The trunk area looks like it was hardly ever used and the engine compartment has been fully detailed and is clean enough to eat off of. Mechanically it runs and drives good and has been well maintained throughout its life. CLICK HERE to see some of the service records since day one when the car was new. (There are some gaps due to DIY servicing not reflected in the records. ) The engine feels silky smooth. and at idle. you sometimes have to look at the tachometer to tell if it’s still running. Underneath. it’s exceptionally dry with no evidence of leaks. The transmission shifts precisely and the clutch is excellent. (And remember. it’s a lot cheaper to do a clutch job on a manual than to rebuild an automatic. and an automatic transmission on most any car over 150. 00 miles is living on borrowed time. ) The steering wheel is on dead center going down the road with no shakes or vibrations at speed. the brakes are firm with no pedal pulsations or pulling to one side when stopping and the suspension is tight. The A/C blows ice cold. The only outstanding mechanical issue is an engine rattle that sounds like a worn timing chain. I’m not a mechanic but that’s what it sounds like to me and you are welcome to have it checked out before bidding. It mostly occurs at steady speeds and goes away when you accelerate or take your foot off the gas. and you don’t hear it all the time. With the windows open. you don’t really hear it at all. It could have been doing this the last 50. 00 miles and it could to it another 50. 00 miles without causing a problem. I've just driven it over 2. 00 miles round trip to Florida and back with no issues and without using any oil either. (That is amazing for an engine of this mileage. ) Either live with it. or if you can do engine work. fix it yourself. It’s probably not worth the cost to take it to a shop to have the work done for what they would charge unless you know someone that can give you a good deal. It was still getting mid to upper 30’s mpg highway and upper 20’s mpg around town during that Florida trip. CLICK HERE to see my gas receipts. It has a matching set of four Futura tires manufactured by Cooper Tire with excellent tread up front and very good tread in the rear. These tires have an all-season tread design for exceptional wet/dry traction on all road surfaces. excellent handling. low noise and a comfortable ride. They have a very high 420 treadwear rating and originally came with a 60. 00 mile warranty. The spare tire and jack doesn’t look like they have ever been used. DROVE TO FLORIDA AND BACK IN JANUARY: The car has been fully checked out and serviced with over $3. 00 worth of new or recent parts. maintenance and repairs with original Hyundai. NF. and is the best value since it’s nearly identical to later models up to 2010. but being four model years older. the majority of the depreciation has been absorbed by the previous owner. yet the car still looks and runs great. Since the ’06 Sonata was the first year of the new bodystyle. it’s the oldest. and thus. the least expensive NF body Sonata you can buy. What that means is you can own a car with the looks. style and prestige of a later model 2010 Sonata for a fraction of the cost. Another thing to remember if you have been looking at Sonatas in the 80-150. 00 mile range is they wont have all the servicing this one has had. Items like struts. suspension components. spark plugs. etc. that this car has had will be required on an 80. 00 mile car sooner or later. The cost new of this Sonata was $18. 95. CLICK HERE to see the original window sticker. But because it was a hot new model. most dealers were adding additional market adjustment markups (read rip off). so with tax. title and tags. you were lucky if you got ANY change back from your $20. 00 bill! This is a one owner car from Maryland which is probably why it’s so clean. CLICK HERE to see the title. and it has a clean Carfax. CLICK HERE to see the Carfax report I ran after buying it. The recall shown on the Carfax has been completed. The car comes with two switchblade remote keys. 2 standard keys and an emergency wallet key: and all the books and manuals: If you are serious about buying a NF body Sonata in general. and a 5-speed version specifically. this is about as low as they go because of the higher mileage. Remember. you can get a great deal on Ebay with prices sometimes way below retail. but no bidder is going to “steal” a vehicle and no seller is going to give one away either. Also when comparing prices. remember the things that you won’t have to spend money on soon after getting it home. With this car you won’t have to spend $600 for struts. you won’t have to spend $500 for suspension bushings. you won’t have to spend $400 on ball joints. you won’t have to spend $400 on a new set of tires. you won’t have to spend $400 on a complete front brake service. you won’t have to spend $400 on a complete rear brake service and you won’t have to spend $300 on a tune-up and filters service. With many of the other listings on Ebay. you’re lucky if they even check the oil before delivery. While most dealers just buy a car to flip in a week or two. I bought this car at a dealer auction more than two years ago to use as one of my personal drivers which is why I serviced it top to bottom. And I’m also passing on the savings in this Ebay auction. If instead of selling it back at a dealer auction I can sell it here on Ebay for a similar price and avoid dealer auction fees and transportation expenses. and the new owner gets the car at a true wholesale price. then both buyer and seller make out ahead. If you are looking for a nice Sonata in good condition at a low price. then this car is hard to beat. Also remember that we don’t charge dealer processing fees or document fees that many other listings have for $200 or more and bury in their fine print. And don’t be fooled by some other auctions that are advertised as NO RESERVE and start at $100 or some other low price. Since no dealer is going to risk losing thousands of dollars if their auction doesn’t bring enough money. you can be pretty sure he has some “people” bidding on it for him. Especially those auctions that are private listings where it says “User ID kept private. ” Also. because my reserve is close to the Buy It Now price. don’t think that you will get a much better deal if you just keep bidding it up instead of using B. I. N. . especially if you need it delivered. TERMS OF THE AUCTION ARE AS FOLLOWS: Since this car may be advertised locally. auction can be canceled at any time (unless auction ended early with BUY IT NOW) due to prior sale without liability to any bidder. There is no possible way to include all minute details and imperfections. however. I believe my listing accurately depicts this vehicle and if there are any issues they are noted in the description. Also remember that a vehicle is made up of thousands of mechanical parts and components and in an older or higher mileage used vehicle a part that is working fine now may go bad the next day. in a week. or a month from now. It’s nearly impossible to tell when a particular part or component will fail as most don’t exhibit prior symptoms. however. proper preventative maintenance as this car has received. can prevent most problems or breakdowns from happening.
