The few things I know about the 2800. It is not a Bavaria. The Bavaria was specifically designed for the US market. The 2800 is a normal issue european engine without any type of emission system. the 2800 is 50Kg lighter than the Coupe version e9. Parts appear fairly easy to come by, hey are a mix of 2002 and e9 parts, he engine is a pretty normal M30 type that were made for many years..Torque and horsepower ratings were different in the 70s, or instance the 1974 careera RS 3.0 made 230 hp.
About my e3 A 4 speed manual was installed in the mid 80’s by a BMW dealer. The transmission feels nice. The technology is old and if you drive it around like a honda you will most likely wear it out, ut for drivers who know what they are doing it will remain healthy. This car has AC with a recent BMW A/C compressor, don’t know if it blows cold. The clutch feels good and the drivetrain shows very little slop. The engine is powerful and immediate. The intake and exhaust make a wonderful noise through their original unrusted self. The car was purchased in Nevada, sed in California for some time then sat in a garage in Oregon for many years. the previous owner was a collector of cars and would routinely start and drive the vehicle around his property. The tires aren’t perfectly round anymore nor are they modern standards. The alternator has a field winding short and the voltage regulator had been replaced with a HUGO brand that looks a little cheap and tired and may have been the improper model. I recommend replacing the alternator and the voltage regulator properly. The battery is new, olds a charge well, ith the mechanical fuel pump would prob drive the car all day without the headlights on. The heater core has a pinhole leak and has been blocked off. I have been able to find replacements on the internet. The clutch on the fan is tired. The car cools itself sufficiently and the coolant is free from any rust particles. The original wooden steering wheel is a nice touch, nd the texture of the road is felt nicely. The car had some very old gas in it. The car starts a bit hard and doesn’t like to idle once it is warm. This has been getting better since fresh gas has been added. My guess is a 45 minuet stint on the freeway would clear it up but this has yet to be experienced. Besides the rust on the outside of the rear fenders (prob the easiest form of fender rust to repair), his car has very little rust else where. the undercarriage is great. the inside of the fenders is great, he gas tank, runk and shock towers are great. The rubber bushings are still responsive. The front suspension still has factory spacers to raise the headlights to us regulations. All the clear coat is in good condition, nd relatively shiny considering it has not been waxed in ages. All the windows are nice, n chipped and un cracked. The breaks have been recently serviced, he pads are good the fluid is new and the pistons are free. The emergency brake works well. The car does not have a sunroof or power windows. All the windows roll down with minimal effort and crisp action. The electrics are in good shape. the wires are soft and playable as are the few vacuume lines. Besides the transmission this car appears to be 100 percent stock.
Ive debated fender flairs and a good set of tires, ut i would like to offer the car to someone who will properly restore her to the original mature sport tourer that she originally was. I would love to keep this car, t is a drivers car, he road can be felt with a certain BMW style. I just can’t work on it right now. If it was fixed up and restored and a few years down the road I would defiantly entertain buying this BMW back. It is a healthy car.
