The Jeep Cherokee SRT8 is what happens when you give the Muscle Car mad scientists at Mopar SRT division carte blanche with an SUV. The delivered one of the most devious SUV’s to hit the road, nd every stab of the throttle makes you wonder how and why they did not do this earlier! They started with a 6.1 Hemi V8,which to most of its competition is “old” technology, ut sometimes “old” is not a bad thing. Let’s bring to light that this single cam stout engine boasts 420…. Meaning 420hp and 420tq…. Pair that with the very reliable W5A580 5 speed transmission and you have a recipe for turning pavement into a blur. Now as most of its American counter parts that is where the fun stops…. They drop a big engine in, hrow hip numbers at us and pump them out. Not the case with the SRT8 Cherokee, fter they wedged the 6.1L engine into its new home they turned their attention to the suspension and brakes. At a glance its not very hard to notice the four piston Brembo calipers stopping on 14.1-inch front rotors and 13.8 rear rotors, nd those are seen behind a set of ALCOA FORGED 20in Wheels sporting 255’s in the front and 285’s in the rear! The front independent suspension takes all of that and puts the driver in extreme control of the car at all times. Even the interior was not an after thought as it received the SRT sport buckets with adjustable bolsters (helpful for guys like me who can’t say no to pizza) and alcantara centers. Now we all know the purpose of an SUV is to haul items and people… usually comfortably. I was amazed as the roads in Ohio are very un-forgiving to low profile tires, hat the SRT8 rides very comfortably with a full load of people and gear, hey even have rear TV’swith wireless headphones to occupy themselves from the slightly aggressive driving I was engaged in. All in all, his is the perfect SUV for a person wanting to have the best of both worlds.
